Guys. Whether Utah wants to give up people or not is not really the issue at hand. The issue is all these guys are gonna be up for extensions at the same time. The Jazz will not pay the luxury tax as they have historically not done it. They will HAVE to give up some of these guys soon. They will not be able to pay max to Gobert, Favors, Hood AND Hayward. One of those 4 will go. I think @abeer3 is right. We're underestimating the value of that #3 pick greatly. We can still net a very very good player, potentially an all star, or some all star that was injured for most of the year (Marc Gasol). Obviously with the #1 or #2 pick we can get a superstar in his prime (Butler, Cousins, Paul George), but let's not act like the 3rd pick is going to get us over the hill vets only. This draft isn't very strong, but hindsight is 20/20. Scouts always either overestimate how deep a draft is or underestimate how strong a draft class is. The #3 pick is still a solid asset to use in a trade. I believe we will trade it if it falls to 3rd and still get a very very good return on it.

Honestly...I'd trade the #3 pick for Nerlens Noel if it were a straight up deal. I think Noel can be Whiteside light for us. I really think that Noel in a good situation could be a great big man. The GS offense with a change of scenery might be just what the doctor ordered.

I think i would do this also. I can see Philly doing it also if they really like Dunn a lot, especially since they need a pg, and maybe allow them to get Ben Simmons instead.

I know I said this several weeks ago, but I am hoping the Lakers take Thon Maker at #32. All mock drafts I've seen have him going late first round or early second round. This guy screams low risk (2nd round pick which 80% never pan out anyway) high reward. I honestly don't even get why he's not even projected as a lottery pick. He's extremely agile with great ball handling and perimeter scoring ability for a 7'1 player. To me, as a prospect this guy has comparable potential to Dragen Bender who's projected to be a top 5 pick. is there something I don't know about this guy which is why he's ranked so lowly? I know he didn't compete in college and the only hype he has going for him is being a YouTube mixtape sensation, but that's the exact same scenario Dante Exum was in and he was a top 5 pick.
Thon Maker has a ton of holes in his game and while I like him and think he can be very good, I understand why people are hesitant on him. He's a black hole offensively, has very little feel for the game, and is extraordinarily thin. He is a LONG term project in the vein of Cabulco who was drafted by the Raptors not too long ago. Here's DraftExpress's breakdown: I'd take a flier on him in the 2nd Round, but he's got a long long journey to an NBA player. Whoever told him to go into the draft this summer did him a disservice.
yeah, I'm not going to weep if the lakers don't take him. I feel like we've seen other wiry seven footers with ball skills who couldn't hack it in the league. I think he'll have to put on a lot of weight and become a center.
That second video makes him look like a scrub against meeger competition. He'll get chewed up in the NBA, but the reality is he won't get floor time. Needs several years to develop to have a prayer. No way I waste a pick on that if there is a Larry Nance Jr floating around out there.
We've had a really good streak here of picking up players late in the draft that can contribute. We can't expect it to last forever. If he's there at 32, I'd take him simply because I don't think we will get another keeper in that slot. Relatively low risk (a player that might not make the roster) for a guy that could be a new age center.
I trust our scouting department. If they see someone they like more than that, I'm okay with it. They've done extraordinarily well in the draft the last couple of years. The only potential misstep has been Anthony Brown, but some people still haven't given up on him.
Apples and Oranges. Bynum was 17 years old when he was drafted. Maker is 19 years old. He will be 20 next February. I don't mind taking him if we stash him overseas while he develops.
