LB Technical Updates

Hey everyone,

It's the off season, and as such, the staff of LB is hard at work making the site better. This thread has been created in an effort to keep all our members as up to date as possible of all the goings on for LB.

In this thread I'll be updating everyone on all the behind the scenes work myself, and other staff members have been doing along with explaining the reason behind any downtime the site may be experiencing.

We'll only be telling everyone about COMPLETED work in here because some things are ongoing and may never come to fruition.

There will be a lot of improvements and changes coming soon and you will all be in the know.

If you DO have a request go ahead and PM one of the mods and we'll do our best to tell you where you can shove it!

Nah I'm kidding, we'll do our best to figure out some way to help you guys And by we I mean the head honchos like thkthebest and Barns.

 

Every new season, we will be locking the past year's discussion thread and creating a new one for a few reasons:

1. Threads can become very big and bloated, which might be a bit intimidating for newcomers.
2. This helps keep the forum organized.
3. It will also be easier to search and look back on old discussions.

And the Media area is fixed, and CaChooKa has posted his Youtube clips in there once again

 

Super fast forum upgrade complete. Forum was down a total of 17 minutes while I upgraded Lakersball.

The forum software has now been upgraded from version 1.3.5 to the newest version 1.4.9, that was released earlier today.

 

17 mins? Better step up your game, Barns. Not much better than Cl if you ask me. :Smile:

Twitter has been updated to follow all the new players, and some new media reporters, and dropped players no longer on the team.

 

Just a tip that people may use in the future.

If you want to quote just a segment of a post rather than the entire post, you can just highlight the area you want to quote. A reply button will appear over the highlighted area. I'm going to use one of therealdeal's post as an example. Take a look at the picture below:



I highlighted the 3rd paragraph. The reply button appears next to it, and you can click that to quote just that segment of the post.

 

Also that's a great feature. I've been just quoting guys and editing the content down in the text box below. It's a little more work, but I couldn't figure out how else to do it.

++++ Upgraded Game Time +++++

I upgraded the Game Time Addon and that should speed up how fast it refreshes new posts during a game.

You can also now change your message color in GT and it stays that color for all of your posts. This will make it easier to distinguish your posts from others.

And you may have noticed an alert over the game time tab. That alert lets you know how many people are in GT. That's a way to know when there's a game going on or if people are just talking about whatever in there.

 

+++++ Testing a new Google Add Type ++++++

I'm trying something new. LB qualified for a new add type called a Matched Content add. This is a description given by Google:

"Matched content is a free recommendation tool that offers you a simple way to promote your articles to your site visitors. By making it easy for your readers to find the content that they're interested in, you can increase your site's page views, the time spent on your site, reader loyalty, ad impressions, and ultimately ad revenue.

With Matched content units, you choose the pages where you'd like the recommendations to appear, then AdSense promotes the articles on your site that are most relevant to the readers of those pages. Matched content recommendations are based on topic similarity and are personalized for the reader."

The new Matched Content list will be at the bottom of every page. Hopefully this will be a good way to easily check out threads that you find interesting as it recommends threads based on the threads you clicked on.
