With all due respect to LO, Julius would break him in his current state. Literally cause bodily harm.

    So, no 1-1...

OK let's play the LO conspiracy game here. Lamar's face is looking like in shape Lamar. What if he went to them and lobbied for a shot at camp to win vet min or ? contract for 1 year. Like Meta .... player coach. He's abused himself physically and mentally but he's also just 37 years old with a rested "basketball" body. With what once were LO skills and unselfishness. Maybe they said OK but you better come watch what you're up against to see if you still want to do it. Is this out of the realm of possibility? What an L.A. Lakers story and the skills added to the roster in limited minutes off the bench. Kobe would still be playing, Vince Carter is still playing, Duncan, Garnett and others. Could his years saved from the NBA pounding help to make up for some of the physical and mental harm he's done?

I'm sure a private workout would eliminate the possibility of signing, but he may have something for as an assistant coach.

Some quotes in the short article

I'm glad that Odom wants to help and our coaching staff isn't promising anything yet

Last year, LO said he could still play NBA ball. So at least he's making progress and having realistic expectations of what he can do going forward.

Would I hire him to the coaching staff? Not yet, but I trust the Lakers FO to make the right call.

I honestly don't know what he could coach.

His skills as a player were very much unique to his body and physique. Nothing he excelled at was due to some unique insight he could impart.

Still, I got a soft spot for LO

Maybe he can teach Randle a thing or two about bringing up the ball and using skill for rebounding positioning

I suppose he could be better at it, but Randell already brings the ball up well, and he's a beast at rebounding. I doubt Odom could teach him enough to warrant making him an assistant.

I think the point is to just keep him busy with a job that he'll like so he doesn't regress back to drugs.

Umh maybe he can be an advance scout? But I don't think we need Luke spending his energy babysitting a friend, Walton already babysits half the team lol

i always thought LO played basketball the right way. The biggest knock against him was that he wasn't aggressive enough, but he almost always made the right pass. He also was known as a sub-par defender the first 6-7 years of his career but then found a niche on those championship teams. Some was due to his length, but he learned to play better positional defense too as the years passed. I actually think he could bring a lot of insight to some of the guys. I agree nothing should be handed to him, but I think he could prove to be an asset as an assistant coach someday.

He's a basketball lifer, and without basketball, he's a bit lost. I hope he finds a way to have a niche and contribute. Unfortunately life on the hardwood does not prepare you for that role very well from any other perspective but experience.

always been a HUGE odom fan, even before he was a laker. really sad about his off-court life, but on the court, what an underrated player. not sure whether he can translate that to someone, but i'm not against giving him a chance.
