Mavs looking to deal. They got cap to extend Randle if that is something he's interested in. Not sure about keeping Randle within the conference, but I would do Randle/Deng/Zu (Noel insurance) for Powell (3 years 30M remaining)/D.Harris (backup for Zo)/protected 1st. Stretch Powell at 4M over 5 years (as opposed to 7.4M over 5 years for Deng) and we're in business for 2018 FA.

they definitely wouldn't throw in the 1st, but the deal otherwise does make some sense. especially with harris coming over to help out at backup pg (not sure mavs would move him, though, as they love him there).

and would we even need to stretch powell? in this scenario, you're gaining about 12 million in cap space without doing so, i think.

Also Powell is much easier to Deal than Deng. He has some market value.

I think it's only 8.5 because in this scenario, we are not going to retain Randle. So it's 18 vs. 9.6. If we are talking about what we save if we ended up stretching Deng, then it's only a couple million difference. And to your point about Harris, I read that Noel is almost out of their rotation entirely. I could see them sending over Noel before Harris.

That being said, I still see no way we are able to trade Deng.

    We'd look like:

    Clarkson- 12.5
    Powell- 9.6
    Lonzo- 7.5
    Ingram- 5.8
    Nance- 2.3
    Kuzma- 1.7
    Hart- 1.7
    Bryant- 1.4
    cap holds~ 2.89
    Total= 45.39 million

That leaves 56.61 million to spend. We would have enough for just one max deal and then 23-27 million or so to spend depending on what level max deal you signed. I think you could move Powell if you had to with a pick attached, he wouldn't be too expensive. That'd free up more than two max deals.

We just might be adding another Kuz to the roster...and he's a Euro, so you know what it is.

No insensitivity intended with the name, but when combined with the pic I have to ask, is this guy real?

^^^^Oh he's real alright and he's had plenty of unicorn exposure, but NY's done him dirty with PT.

If we do get him tho, he should affectionately be known as Kuzi, cause there's only one guy that deserves the Kuuuuz chant.

Please stop trying to get Nerlans Noel in a trade to come here. Noel sucks donk. He is terrible. His BBIQ is 3. His presence is a 1 and his effectiveness on team basketball is 0. No to Noel.

He'd be "The First Noel" in a Lakers jersey, just in time for Christmas

I'm not really excited about him and I'm worried about who that means we'd have to let go of.

Basically the only way I make this move is if I can find a way out of Deng right now because I don't want to lose a valuable young asset for a "shooter" who only shot 32.1% last year. If we had to give up on Thomas Bryant or Josh Hart or Ivica Zubac to get this guy, I'm out.

Knicks needed room for a returning-from-injury Noah.
