well, that and AD is a FA in 2020, too.

could mean a lot of things. it could mean the lakers are super confident they're getting kawhi or kyrie or kd, and they're telling coaching candidates this. it could be they're doing that they're doing the latter without the actual confidence. or it could be as KB suggested.

anyway, the FA thing can only go so long, unless we're planning on dumping all the youngsters before having to pay them--which if it isn't in a blockbuster trade, i will be ANNOYED.

Or maybe, hopefully they finally target free agents to be role players at reasonable price tags that fill needs and can be easily moved if the right trade presents itself (i.e. Indy's Bogdanovic). One can dream.

^I don't think you can get role players at reasonable prices this off-season.

Too many stars are available and most teams are equipped with salary cap. This means that we are due for a terrible round of overspending on little production with a "potential" tag. I'd have expected 2020 to be the year of overspending but 2019 might take the cake if teams with money strike out on stars and then panic (and the Lakers are likely to be one of them lol)

We will have to wait and see.

We will not panic and Mozdeng this offseason. I am confident we will roll over the cap space for a shot at AD. The Klutch connection is just too strong there.

The key is waiting, imo. Good players fall through the cracks every year. Mozgov got his offer at 12:01--has they just waited, he'd have been cheaper or gone. Also allows you to use space to take on salary once you s struck out on big fish.

Something to look at in terms of AD's true max in 2020. He's eligible for a 30% max and with a 116m cap, that's 34.8m.

He can opt into his 28.8m player option, activate his 15% trade kicker and get traded that summer and make a total of 33.1m that year, with bird rights in tow. Essentially, he doesn't lose money in doing so.

For 2020, we have roughly 16m in cap space with a 3-12 pick in this draft and BI's 21.8m RFA cap hold on the books.

With or without AD activating his trade kicker, you will be able to trade the majority of his contract into space and will have to aggregate about 10-13m in outgoing salary. What this means is, we can trade for AD (and his bird rights) next summer and still hold onto Zo/BI but would likely lose Kuz, Hart, Moe, 2019 pick in the process.

So AD can threaten to walk into our space in 2020 and opt into his final year to get traded here a la Cp3...Leverage still intact.

It will be a lost year unless we land Kawhi. If we land Kawhi, I think we would then go all in and try to fill our roster with multi-year deals. Danny Green, Seth Curry...players like that. Maybe Lonzo, Kuzma and our lottery pick for Beal. Give us a starting 5 of McGee/Lebron/Ingram/Kawhi/Beal. Hart, Seth Curry and Green off the bench.

To add to what Savs said, nearly all the free agents this summer are heading into their 9th years. They can sign for no more than a 30% max this summer. Next summer tho, they're all eligible for a 35% max deal.

Expect 1+1 deals this summer that gives them in opt out to cash in next summer. In a way, we get a 1 year preview into how well they work/collab with Bron.

If they don't, then we/they leave next summer and it opens the door for AD if we haven't traded for him already.

That is the most cap practical approach to this.

Not sure if it needs to be. Tyler Johnson, Josh Jackson and a pick probably gets it done. It would open up the Pelicans pg spot free and clear (not that Ball and Holiday wouldn't have worked well together) for them to want Ball in the AD trade.

People need to stop with Lebron being traded in a scenario where AD comes back. The second we trade Lebron, our relationship with Klutch (therefore AD) is toast.

so no AD next yr, we trade Lebron? :Magic2: and since Griffin wants to keep AD around how bout we do a James for a Randle (SnT), 2 1st (including their lotto pick this yr), some salary fillers. Combine both lotto pick trade up to #3 and pick Ja Morant, trade Zo to somewhere.

Of course it was. They're finally seeing that guys like Tatum and Brown aren't really the "cornerstone" pieces they were last season IF Boston were to even include them in a package. Tatum has only recently started to warm up, but other than that, nothing to run to the paper about.

One of BI/Kuz and Zo + the lottery pick is all they're getting now. Take it or leave it, we'll take our chances in the summer WITH our kids.

that report is a bad thing for us, goes to shows/proves teams will not deal with us in good faith when players of AD/Kawahi lvls are involved

I still don't buy this narrative. Pels had their reasons not to want to deal with the Lakers and I don't blame them for feeling bullied. No team wants to trade their superstar, even less so when it seems they are being forced to do so.

so you dont think if Bos was "able" to trade for AD (due to Irving pending FA) the Pels would've taken their pkg over ours even if it "lesser" in value?
