If the streamers beat down Disney and Warner etc...

Investors see movies as to much of a gamble because China, India, Europe upped their movie game making the foreign box office much more competitive, the money invested is lower, all the glamour is gone, might as well move somewhere where the costs of living are lower...

Of course. Taxes being the #1 reason.

Texas has lots of land too.

Maybe not move completely out, but start filming in other locations more often.

Filming outside of Los Angeles is already popular.

California is doing an awesome job of running people out of the state.

Almost the entire slate of CW shows is filming in Canada already. Georgia is also getting a lot of business. It's already happening.

If LA loses tv nobody cares. If the Oscars move, all the actors move, everyone would notice. I guess it would have cool museums.

I don't think the Oscars move. Actors already move if they have a show in another city. The thing is Hollywood is sometimes viewed as an entity. The reality is Hollywood is such a large, diverse group of people. But the shift is already happening. London (specifically Pinewood Studios) is now ground zero for Star Wars filming. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 was filmed mostly in Georgia as was Black Panther.

Another thing is cost of production. You can now make a good looking movie (whether or not it's entertaining is another issue) for peanuts. There are 4k digital film cameras that shoot gorgeous footage for under 10k. LED light packages are relatively inexpensive, and you can just sign up for the Adobe Creative Cloud for a few bucks a month until the project is complete. Give me 100k and I can make a movie. Because of the new low-cost entry point, Hollywood is anywhere you want it to be.

As for the actors living where they cost of living is less, since the big stars have more money than they know what to do with, they will likely continue to choose to live in California...cause today it's 72 degrees outside.

The institution of the movie star is almost dead.

To an extent, yes. As far as theatrical releases, the intellectual property is way, waaaaay more important. But as I said earlier, with movies being so inexpensive to make these days, there are TONS of indie films out there. Having someone that is recognizable in those is just about the only thing that can separate your film from the noise.

They already are moving. You should see how many movies are being made around Atlanta. My wife has family there and we visit fairly often. Tons of work in the industry there.
