For years, Magic Johnson’s brief and unspectacular coaching career fit within an easily digestible narrative. Magic, just a year and a half removed from retiring as a player and a year and a half removed from being unnecessarily shouted out of making a comeback with the Los Angeles Lakers, took over a lacking Laker team late in 1993-94 that was half made-up of Magic-era veterans and 1990s-generation whippersnappers.

Magic couldn’t get through to the kids, and he couldn’t squeeze much else out of the oldsters. Johnson went just 5-11 with the Lakers as they missed the playoffs for the first time in 18 years, he confirmed that he would not be returning to the team just ten games into his tenure, and he vowed never to coach again following the 16-game trial.

I've mentioned it before but he deserves his own thread. We are very fortunate to have him put in the work he does for the MEDIA section. The editing is first rate not to mention time consuming and the image quality is off the charts. Sharpness, color, everything just pops.

Missed the Memphis game and Clarkson's coming out party .... can't wait.

The two have remained respectful of each other through both the good and the bad.

But rarely have Lakers coach Byron Scott and Lakers guard Jeremy Lin ever agreed on much regarding both his early-season struggles and his recent success following the NBA All-Star break.

Lin enters Sunday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks (40-24) at Staples Center averaging 15.5 points on 47.4 percent shooting, 5.63 assists and .88 turnovers in 25.12 minutes per game through eight contests following the All-Star break. That marks a sharp increase from when Lin averaged 10.2 points on 42.6 percent shooting, 4.6 assists and 2.7 turnovers in 25.5 minutes per game before the break.

“He’s more comfortable,” Scott said. “He’s not thinking so much out there.”

Yet, Lin argued he mostly feels comfortable because Scott has granted him both more freedom to run the offense and run more pick-and-roll plays.
