In fairness, he's a little long in the tooth. Still think he can give us some quality mins for short stints as @JSM said....
Honestly, I didnt even know he was still in the league. Loved ariza when he was here but not sure he has much left.
PJ Tucker is basically the same age as Trevor and he was a huge part of the Bucks title run I believe Trevor can play the same role for us so I think it’s a solid move.
I’ve always been a Trevor Ariza fan. I’m glad to have him back for one more championship run. He’s a high IQ guy and I think he will contribute, but yeah not too many minutes please.
I don't know how much he can offer on either end. But THT can learn the tricks of the trade from him. THT is one lucky dude he gets to play with 6 future hall of famers and learn a lot from them and big time vets like Ariza too
Yeah, imagine being 20y old, a late draft and playing/training with Lebron, AD, Melo, Gasol, Howard, Rondo, Ariza and so on. You can learn so much and must be so fun He better be working 10h a day
i still think we brought him in as a mentor/playoff/in-case-of-emergency guy. i've seen folks posting depth charts with him at 24mpg, and i highly doubt this happens, for several reasons.
He's the best wing defender. Who you play 3? Specially when it seems LeBron will play more 4 this year He played the last 30g of regular season an average of 28min. In the playoffs he played 38 in game 1 (lost by 2) and 20 the remaining 3 blowouts. He didn't seemed that washed, and really only needs to guard and wait for the occasional open 3
bazemore, THT or go smaller. we don't have enough minutes for our sgs. yeah, i'll be shocked if he has more than 20mpg in him for a full season at this point. he's got a ton of miles. but i guess he's been doing it lately. just seemed to me like someone you'd want to mothball for the playoffs. i thought we were doing that with wes last year, when it turns out we just didn't want to play him, i guess. then again, i just looked and wes played 20mpg. just didn't seem like it.
this was my thought, too. but pika is correct that ariza has indeed been playing sizable roles lately (i completely missed this). who knows? the roster certainly isn't fully balanced (lots of guards who want/need minutes), but we had that issue two years ago, and it seemed to mostly resolve itself via injuries.
I saw one tweet say he was told he would have a significant role, and another saying he believed he could earn a bigger role. I hope it is the latter.
I was happy to read a few days ago Slick say Ariza still has quick feet, and then seeing Cranjis's statement, "Trevor Ariza is a darn effective defender" and the stats and graph he put up on page 1. Seems like in the amount of minutes he'll be asked to play he can still be very good? :Kuzmawhoknew:
Yeah I was surprised to see that he average 28 minutes per game this past season. Maybe he has more left in the tank than we thought? After the signing, I did also originally envision him as an end of the bench, emergency depth kind of player. But I could also envision a scenario where he starts for us. We have a lot of options. Will be interesting to see how Vogel utilizes everyone.
I think if we play against big wings Ariza will see more minutes. Say against Kawhi, Butler, Tobias Harris. Otherwise we’d play one of the bigger SGs there like Bazemore
