Yes, I think that’s his market, if we can sign guys for at least 3 years at a time not these 1 year BS which helps no one, the player or the team.
i think the problem is no one signs vet mins for multiple years unless they're close to retirement like marc gasol, where it's just a way to grab a few extra bucks at the end. a player option helps the players (damian jones is seeing that now), a team option helps the team. a one-year with no options probably favors the player slightly, particularly here because a) they'll be highly visible and b) they'll have a bigger role due to our current team structure. we'll have to see who comes calling for troy this summer and at what price point. i like what he brings at his price, but his numbers are kinda where they were when nobody wanted him at more than the minimum last summer. it's possible we can bring him back at the slight raise we can offer.
Yes, quietly he has become a reliable rotation guy. We need to commit to some role players instead of overhauling rosters year after year.
Another solid pickup by Rob. Every player doesn't have to be a potential 20pt scorer or 38% 3 pt shooter. He plays hard, doesn't hunt shots, and doesn't play like he's intimated by the opposition. He's a solid glue guy, on a min contract, what is there not to like about Troy?
No doubt. I would like one of those guys on our team though too. Preferably in a move for Pat Bev, Jones and JTA.
Me too and I hope we can keep him. He’s got room to grow. Who on the whole team has been a model of consistency except LeBron on offense. Ave defense vs the crap D we got out of the vet mins last year is an upgrade.
the (sort of huge) success of most of our offseason moves doesn't fit with certain very important narratives around here. brown, bryant, and schroder have been vet min home runs. before walker got squeezed out and then injured he was one of the league's best tax mle signings. even the much maligned beverley trade has actually been a win for us, as he's been better than THT and THT has another year on his contract. add in the drafting of christie, and we had a fantastic summer. the problem was that no sensible avenue emerged to move russ, so none of it looks great because it's all marginal moves. but everyone says rob sucks at the margins. i disagree.
^ I actually agree with all that. The signings are/were good: Dennis, Rui, Lonnie, TB, etc. It's another thing that we have no continuity as a team and that we're top heavy. But most of these dudes we signed are outperforming their contracts. It's not their fault they can't defend like Artest or shoot like Klay. They'd be paid a lot more, playing for some other team, if they could do that. This is why I would prefer to actually start building the team: keep the guys who work hard and fit well together and try really hard to trade those who don't. Don't be afraid to sign someone who is not on an expiring contract, develop our young guys. We already draft extremely well anyway. Is that too much to ask?
I don’t know what Rob was thinking when he signed all the old guys last year after trading for Brick but he has some shrewd moves this season. It hasn’t worked but a lot more likable players than last year’s team.
