3rd string is what he would be at this point, and unlikely to play much of a role really. For a minimum, it might makes sense, but he's not better at this stage of his career than the guys we have now. (Assuming we could bring them all back) And on top of that you have DMC who should be ready to come back.

Pau was not my favorite player, but probably my favorite person that played in the NBA.

A day late in posting, but he needs to be celebrated

He may have traveled here (as in, he did), but they didn’t call the blatant fouls so they cancel each other out.

I personally don’t think he deserves it, but then again i’ll understand if he gets it.

Why is that? Wilt is in the rafters and he won one ring for us as the second best player on the team. No way we win the last two without Pau.

Maybe I remember too many times being pissed at Pau for being "Gasoft"

Can you name any other legends up there who pissed off Laker fans more than Pau Gasol? He's not a legend in my book and never will be. Essential part of championships? Yes, but legend? Not to me.

and I've been primarily working US hours, so my sleep patterns are a mess, and there are times I don't go outside and see sun for days at a time.

Kind of messes with you. I'll keep an eye on that so I don't unnecessarily spread negativity. My apologies if I've been grumpy.

However, my feelings on Pau are he's a great dude, but not a legend. He needed Kobe to pull out his black swan. Legends do that on their own. Legends don't infuriate their fan bases by playing soft. Legends belong on that wall only. Pau doesn't make the cut for me personally, but I understand if he does for others.

well fans were pissed at him before and after the championships for his soft moments, so I guess I don't have rose colored glasses for Pau.

I don't remember anyone being too broken up about trade rumors involving him. The only complaint I heard is that we should have gotten something for him instead of just letting him walk.

Would any of the other HOF's with their number retired EVER be allowed to walk without a contract offer or a proposed trade to get something back? The Lakers were DONE with him, and that's not very legend.

Still one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Hall of Fame player for his career achievements. I just feel the Lakers Jersey retirement is on a completely different level. The HOF's of HOF's.

i think most people felt pau had lost his luster after his terrible performance in the '11 playoffs and his play the next season wasn't as strong as his past seasons with the lakers so it kind of validated that feeling

there were tons of trade rumors involving him leading up to the '12 deadline but who knows how serious they were about actually trading him. i don't think they were too serious because that team was still a playoff team and i'm sure they knew they wanted to go all in for 12-13. i'm sure all the rumors got to him though, and i remember kobe coming out and criticizing the FO for how they were handling all the trade rumors involving pau

at the end of the day, they really messed up in not trading him after 12-13 or at the '14 deadline and getting something in return. still don't understand why that didn't happen with the team going nowhere. i think they'll end up retiring his # eventually. how many lakers players contributed to multiple titles like pau and are in the HOF but don't have their # retired?

^West, Baylor, Chamberlain, Goodrich, Abdul-Jabbar, Worthy, Johnson, Wilkes, O'Neal, Bryant... I don't think our main rivals (the you know whats) have the same star power as ours. We don't retire other player's jerseys (cough, Pat Riley, cough). Let's not forget the greatest basketball play by play announcer ever who coined up the most memorable catch phrases that ones nowadays can only dream of.

Gasol? In his short tenure, he did impact the team lifting us to the next level but it took a hard screen hit in FIBA and a gold medal reminder in his locker to get toughen his mentality. 2010 was his apex. Who knows if Gasol would have had a bounce back if Howard and Nash were not limited/injured respectively to take the pressure off him? Retire his number, I'm for it even if subjectively he does not have the same standards as the ones in the rafters. Then again who currently does besides him other than James?

On a personal note, I'd love to see the cat on my avatar given that honor. Goodrich was so there! :) Comparison hardware wise? 5 to 1. DPOY 1987 too.
