Come on... Shorten MLB games not NBA. Terrible. Never even heard this was being discussed. They planning to squeeze an extra commercial in there?

The NBA doesn't need shorter games. Average games are about 2 hours long. aren't they?

^^^ I think you're right. He told the media it was Kyrie Irving's team. The guy has gotten "skinny"
[IMG] and lazy. No more "roid" emotions.

I don't like it. It's what I like about the NBA. Some consistent rules over the years. Also the thing with all the history and the stats that come along with that. And 48 minutes is just right. We have 40 minutes here in Europe and to play it I like it myself as an amateur player :D but come on 48 minutes of action is great. To watch it I think 40 or 44 are just not enough.
Also I don't think it will help with injuries etc. - most of the guys will still play the same amount of minutes and just rest a bit less during the game.

^This - the players that need the rest most will play the same minutes. All this means is less time for second units.

Completely changes the nature of the game. A team like the Spurs or Heat can beat you because their second units get the job done when starters are resting. If LeBron plays all 40 minutes it's more about just stopping LeBron all game. That has implications too but I like that we rely on benches somewhat.

I'm not one to maintain the status quo just because it's always been that way. Yes it affects the records and interpretation of stats, but plenty of variables that aren't accounted for do that aleady. Sports aren't so sacred (I don't think anything is) that they can't evolve to meet current reality. But there should be a compelling reason that I have yet to hear the argument for in this case.

I think the game action blows by pretty quickly as is and would agree that you'll see less of the second units.

They tried shortening the three point line and that didn't last long, they tried changing the game ball and that was a disaster. It's bad enough they did away with the ten second line trying to speed up the game and now they want to shorten it? They need to stop, the game is just fine.

Less preseason games, less back to backs, not less minutes in a game

At least Kobe's 81 points mark would be safe ;)

To be exactly precise...... 2 hours, 33 minutes and 6.5 seconds. UNLESS it's a "game 1" of double header on TNT or ESPN with Lakers having "game 2". Then the average jumps to 3 hours, 12 minutes and 14.3 seconds. Honest ..... [IMG]

    lol
I'm another one that thinks this is a bad idea.
If they want a shorter game, reduce the amount of instant replays or get rid of them altogether and on national televised broadcasts, get rid of the tv timeouts and the extra long halftimes, but then again that will cut into the advertising time :bang.

Oh yeah MLB games are way too ******* long.

Dirk, LeBron, and Spoelstra see no point in shortening the games. It's not really the minutes that affect them; it's the number of games.

Less games = more rest in between games, less back-to-backs, more time to practice.

Dirk also said he wants less timeouts. Lol. He doesn't like how the flow of the game is constantly interrupted by timeouts.

I feel it's pretty unnecessary to change the length of the game. I'd be very surprised if anything were to come from this, just leave it as it is.

Not saying I support this but I do think the NBA and Fiba should normalize the rules of the game.

They really should use Fiba's knocking the ball off the rim instead of the imaginary arbitrary cylinder over the rim rule.

Another thing that always bugs me is how the 3 pt line isnt a consistent distance across the arc. It's just strange that its further up top, and tapers off on the side lines. I'd be in favor of widening the court to fit a perfect half circle 3 pt line. This would also open up the game more and promote the entertainment value the NBA likes to stress.

They should just ask Lebron how many games he wants to play and change the schedule to that.

Most of the League thinks this is silly besides a few pampered stars. Jordan laughed this off. Kobe wouldn't want it.

Dumb idea. There's other ways to reduce the minutes on guys' legs.

If it's not broke, don't fix it is my philosophy. Really no need to shorten the games. Like others have said, less back to backs would be more ideal than changing the nature of the game. Scheduling seems to always be the culprit in exhaustion, especially when there are 4 games in 5 nights.
