He's a young player who got his first consistent minutes. He made mistakes but he's a high skill guy who should be brought back for more development if possible. He has the best +/- on the entire roster with a +52 for the season.
you mean "system" as in the thing that makes him have top defenses everywhere? is that what the pejorative quotes are for? and monk hasn't been a defender in any system yet, which is why he's not even going to get caruso money, imo.
Whoppee do man. Frank Vogel had led his teams to no better than 7th in the Conference in 6 out of his last 7 seasons. Maybe his defense isn't as important as you make it out to be. If Monk keeps up his scoring pace next season, he will most definitely make more than Caruso, including getting a better deal from the Lakers.
lol, if you think 7th last year vs. 11th this year are the same, i've got a bridge to sell you. but you don't. you're just arguing in bad faith, per usual.
Correction...It won't actually be season no, if he comes back and plays well, he will pass him in a couple of seasons even with the Lakers. Caruso only gets 10 million per season.
I would not bring anyone back but Reaves. Malik is a good young player but his defense is atrocious. Lakers need to find a way to get some junk yard dogs in here who can shoot.
i like monk, but i agree that it's not the end of the world if he walks. he made strides on defense but still is at the "you can only have one of these guys in your 9-man rotation" level of defense. unfortunately, we had, like 8 of those. if you're going to keep monk and melo, you simply can't sign any other non-defenders (and that's after you replace westbrook with someone who cares about that end). anyway, again, i'll be surprised if someone shows up with a deal as big as caruso's for monk. if they do, we shouldn't cry too much about it.
I hope it's not, but if this was his final game as a Laker, what a way to go out. Hell of a dunk contest he put on, too.
Spectacular game and Reeves said hold my beer and one upped him. We've got to keep these guys and their chemistry together. Those great lob passes from Reeves to Malik are wonderful. Reeve's passing is wonderful. Should have had even more assists the way he was hitting guys for open looks.
It’s awesome to have a guy like this on the roster, someone that can come in and just pile up points. I’d love to have him back, but yes I agree he can’t defend, so mainly he needs to just be a bench scorer and have some defenders around him.
i think both can only get marginally better. monk is still unlearning bad habits, and that will help. but nothing's going to make him big enough to defend the position he's best suited for (sg). and nothing's going to make reaves a super duper athlete, but he can add strength and just gain pro experience. if they're our two primary shooting guards alongside lebron and AD, i'm happy. they each bring different things a team needs, and they're both good enough to be 25mpg players on a good team even without much improvement. night and day compared to ellington and bazemore.
