I’d love to see him get a crack as a starter. He’s a smart enough offensive player to figure out ways to score alongside Russ, Lebron and AD. His defense is getting gradually better too.
That's not a bad idea. The kid can play and really seems to be working harder on D. At this point, our best starting lineup is probably Russ/Monk/Bron/AD/Dwight.
i think ellington is going to get a shot as the starter. and i get why. i think by the end of the year, reaves will probably be the starter, but i could see monk, too.
yeah, he's obviously a more-than-minimum player, which is why we probably won't get to keep him for next year (gotta hope he wants the mini MLE and a promise to use early bird to give him a raise the following year). the smith comparison has been right on for me since day 1. like smith, he's got some flaws that i don't think will ever fully be remedied, but it's important not to let them completely obscure his positives. between him and reaves, we have two guys who could play all the minutes at sg to my satisfaction. which makes the fact that we signed 3 other vet sgs even more bizarre.
Lakers will need Malik's youth. Lakers need their young guys to play hard all year to have a shot. Hopefully when Nunn gets backs, he gives the same contribution. If he does, the Lakers could ride this if the big 3 are healthy going into the playoffs.
I was a proponent of the JR Smith comparison as he's got similar athleticism and shooting ability but the big difference is he's so small out there. JR was a legit SG at 6'6" and one thing you notice watching Monk is I'm not sure he's as tall as as his listed height of 6'3". JR tended to play small as he would get abused downlow by guys like Rudy Gay and unfortunately Monk also plays small and is as noted significantly smaller to begin with. I think Monk is going to have get used to be a bench 6th man type as he's too sloppy with the ball to play PG and his size is a real issue at times both on defense and the glass. That being said nothing wrong with being a great 6th man: the Pistons never had the original microwave and we've seen guys like Terry work out
My comp is still Lou Williams. No he doesn’t get the and ones that Lou does but his size, his skill set and ability to get red hot off the bench remind of Lou in a good way. Unfortunately neither one plays much D, but for the bench scorer role Monk is perfect.
Lou is much better off the dribble then Monk: he plays like a PG yes a scoring one. Yes Monk can get off a nice pass or break a guy down but Williams shot creation off the dribble and ability to play the PnR game is at another level.
If the losers get a game ball, it goes to Monk. He was next level in the 4th. Even got a couple solid defensive plays out of him in the clutch. The microwave was cooking!
Another nice game from Monk. He’s quietly becoming one of my favorite current Lakers. I really do hope we are able to keep him next year. He’s just fitting right in.
