Jerry West, one of the NBA’s foremost executives, is “very intrigued” about joining forces with the Clippers, said two league executives who were not authorized to speak publicly about the ongoing talks.

West, an executive board member with the Golden State Warriors who consults with the team’s basketball operations, would also be an advisor with the Clippers with a strong say as a consultant, the executives said.

West recently met with Clippers owner Steve Ballmer and Doc Rivers, the team’s coach and president of basketball operations, said the executives. The Clippers got permission from the Warriors to speak with West, one executive said.

“But nothing is going to happen any time soon,” the executive said.

Fans in Los Angeles know West, 79, as a Hall of Fame icon who had incomparable success with the Lakers for decades as a player and executive.

He has been with the Warriors for six years and helped preside over one of the NBA’s best teams in the past three seasons.

Having West, the executives said, probably would help the Clippers this summer when they face uncertain futures with Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and J.J. Redick.

Paul can opt out of his contract by June 29 and become an unrestricted free agent.

He can re-sign with the Clippers for five years and $205 million, or take a four-year, $152-million deal with another team.

Griffin can opt out of his contract by June 28 and become an unrestricted free agent. He can re-sign with the Clippers for five years and $175 million, or get a four-year deal for $130 million from another team.

Redick is an unrestricted free agent.

Luc Mbah a Moute can also opt out of his contract by June 29 and become an unrestricted free agent.

Ew, why would he want to taint his legacy like that? Nobody can save that franchise, nobody.

Just frustrating. I know Magic and Pelinka want to create their own legacy as president / GM, but how do you let a national treasure like Mr West be up the road on across the arena? Sign him, pick his brain, give him the rightful sendoff he deserves, in Purple and Gold. Trust me Magic, it can't hurt. He'll make you look better while expecting none of the praise.

We take down jersey from rafters. But man, what's with the Clips and taking our leftovers?

According to a Ding article from March, Jerry was reportedly interested in a job back here, but Jeanie wasn't for it, wanting to look to the future with Magic and Pelinka. I understand that angle honestly, at some point you need to look to the future and not the past. But, when you're talking Jerry West I think you can make an exception, he clearly is still as sharp and on top of what works as ever.

Agree Weezy. Like, I'm against hiring Phil. Time to move on. But West? C'mon Jeannie.

Did that article say he would still be consulting with Warriors too even if he hooked up with Clippers, or Lakers had Jeanie and Magic opted to have him if those rumors were true he wanted in here again? That sounds weird. What's he looking to accomplish these days? If I read wrong then why is he leaving situation with GS?

    I didn't understand that either. I can't imagine a team allowing that.

I do not care what kind of legacy Magic and Pelinka want to create. Having Jerry West as a consultant is SMART BUSINESS. Legacy IS having someone like Jerry West in the room, observing and advising. I am sure if Magic really means about Kobe being involved, that Kobe would be the first to say, get Jerry back.

Now, little low end conspiracy. I think the Clippers thing is a scare tactic. Because if Jerry goes to the Clippers, he will fix that team up. Quick too.

Said he'd probably hire Ryan away too to work in the stench over there. How disgusting if true.

I hope so too. But Jerry West is exactly what the Clippers need.

The Clippers??? WTF Jerry say it isn't so. Some things just can't be fixed. Will see your cough cough Rivers .... and West and raise you a Magic, Kobe, Luke, Pelinka and what we have going on. Would he super max Paul and Blake tying up that much money or let one or both leave to bring in young new West chosen players to try and do it all over again? At 79 years old with the Lakers on their way back?

There goes my fairly good mood...
Don't do it Jerry. Leave the Warriors and just chill on the front porch, like all the other old people do. If you still want to work though, pick anyone but C Bags and tennants.
    Signed,
every Lakers fan in the world.

Ballmer has billions to spend if he wants to. So in a way, I wouldn't bother collecting checks for a couple of advices here and there.

Jerry can do as he pleases.

not sure what west can do with that situation. their real star is about to age out, and they really haven't done anything for their brand. once paul's done, they're back to clipperville, like the veto never happened.

i do enjoy that doc rivers has to engage in pursuing his own replacement. he's not a good gm.

He thought he was equipped for his "window" and went all in. Unfortunately he didn't have what he thought he had.

I say unfortunately like Metta here: [IMG]
