Ive always liked McGee so I’m kinda glad he’s back with the team. At least now rim protection and rebounding won’t be much of a problem with him and Davis starting.
For the price he is a good addition. Chances are his wheels fall off before the playoffs but the length and speed is pretty unique. Him and AD can basically tower the paint and have a block party.
This was the main player from last year I wanted us to bring back. He was easily my favorite of last year's additions. Fair deal. Brought him back for market value. Glad he stuck around instead of bolting to Houston or Detroit (the only 2 teams I know he met with). Hopefully the asthma won't be triggered to the extent it was because of the last year's pneumonia His minutes should be fine with frontcourt additions Boogie and AD. I think he can fit nicely next to any combo of our bigs -- AD, Boogie, Kuz (who will see some time at PF too, I'm guessing). AD and Boogie can stretch the floor with their range and handling/passing abilities. McGee should expect a lot of easy buckets this year.
I like when players want to run it back and stick around, we’ve had so few of that recently aside from our draft picks. Most of our signings stay one year and then bolt to get paid or get 4 year deals because we were only offering one year. McGee seemed to genuinely like being a Laker, you could see him around other Lakers still working out and such during the offseason, there was a vibe like he was definitely going to be back. Glad he wants to be here and that he waited the Kawhi situation out.
People were complaining about the Green deal as well. (Not here, on Twitter) Look at what centers got in free agency Look at what elite role players got in free agency I don’t understand the complaint over 1-2 million dollars. We got relative steals for what others were getting paid. There’s no pleasing some.
I really liked McGee’s energy, but I hope he knows his role this year and doesn’t get frustrated if Cousins and AD are taking up a lot of his minutes at the 5.
Yeah, I would bet that either Boogie or McGee is not on the team by the end of the year. Mr.Rambis had mentioned how bad of a teammate McGee was especially when Zubac was taking minutes from him. Either of those dudes might get moody if they are fighting for minutes with each other.
That's where this veteran coaching staff, Rondo, and Bron come into play and earn their checks for ego control and player management. I think McGee's concern with us showcasing Zu was it costing him money during free agency. Now that he's secured for two years, I think he'll be comfortable.
How do you fix a minute issue? - New era of “load management” - Different guys can sit on any given night, which lets other players like Mcgee to get a large amount of minutes to showcase himself - if everyone is committed to bringing it every night, point 1 can yield fantastic results - that means no losing to bottom tier teams that we are all too familiar with - Those that are concerned about minutes can have 20 or so “showcase” games Win 50-60 games with that method, everyone is rested, sacrifice in playoffs, win a ring, everyone gets paid. But you have to mindset of the Raps, Bucks last year where every is committed to same goal and doesn’t just give games away like we did last year.
Truth is we could of paid McGee 500k a year and people would complain that we brought him back at all because someone else got some body half as good for 3 Mil a year. Armchair GM'ing is a great thing. No matter what the team does it won't be perfect especially if the people don't like who is calling the shots. McGhee was one of few Lakers who played his a** off every game. The guy never quit on our team. He never complained. He was a great locker room guy AND he wanted to be here. The upside to his talent is astonishing when we see the glimpses of it. A roll player that can protect AD from wear and tear. Who else were going to get at the price that could do that? Yea, I am a fan of this guy and signing.
