I guess I'll be watching how this applies to our roster during the preseason. It supposedly works great if you have guys that can attack off the dribble. http://www.fastmodelsports.com/library/basketball/fastdraw/239618/play-4-Out-1-In-Motion-Offense
from link and for those questioning the schroder pick up: the things that worry me about this offense for our personnel are 1. AD is slotted at the 4 for most of his minutes, which means he's meant to make a lot of catches beyond the three point line, not in the corner. i hate him there. it's like the worst thing you can do with his skill set on offense. it's a shame we got a hofer in his prime and haven't made attempts to optimize him on offense in any of the three (and now 4) years he's been here. 2. it requires guys to make meaningful off-ball cuts and screens in rapid succession and really wants to limit dribbling unless it's a direct attack. i love that in principle, but we have lebron and russ (and now schroder), who all really want to pound that ball. ham's got his work cut out for him there. i think lebron can do it, and i've seen flashes here and there from schroder, but russ...just never seen it. 3. related to both points, you'd like to have all 4 out guys be real threats to catch and shoot quickly, and we definitely don't have that unless we want to play small and get killed on d, which doesn't seem to be the plan. looking forward to seeing reaves in this offense, as his high hoop iq is going to get him and others some buckets, imo--especially if he's out there with lebron.
This is why that as much as I try to picture starting line ups it is hard not to have Reaves in it. He is a perfect fit. I'm not worried about AD fitting in. Ham will have that worked out. AD is just too talented to not make it work. He just needs to be pushed a bit to keep him involved. I would love to see AD, LeBron, Bryant, Reaves and Schroder together to see what that looks like. I like players that can pound the rock as long as they can shoot well enough to make defenders have to challenge three point shots. Full out challenge do a blow by. Otherwise take your shot.
No one respects Schroeder's 3pt shot and i mean no one. He plays well at Eurobasket and still, every team dares him to shoot.
yeah, but i think he can move himself and the ball in ways that make him a threat. in theory, russ could, too. he just doesn't.
I hope everyone listens to Rob and Coach Ham today. It is impossible to hear this guy talk basketball strategy and not get excited. I'm going to be watching games just to follow his coaching. I am on board with everything he has said. I really like the getting away from specialist and signing basketball players. I also am glad to hear him doubling and tripling down on who plays the hardest and best defense will be playing. This is exactly as it should be. Might have to buy a bigger tv for this season.
What are you watching and how old? Large flat panel's have really come down in price for nice sets last few years. Hit me up in PM if interested.
Love it I'm also hyped with Ham. Loved the press conference with Rob. Ham looks like the real deal. He says the right things and touches the right points. It seems he can build a culture. Love the doubling down on defense and that minutes are reserved for those who played. The narrative this year is way better than last year, both on a team level but also on addressing Russ. There's no sugarcoating, it seems we have a leverage on him. Was surprised he didn't refer to AD as our defensive anchor. Instead he mentioned Russ, which is ok to motivate him and putting him on the spot. But I was expecting some tease on AD too like Vogel did in our championship year. I would have liked to challenge AD to be DPOY. But that doesn't seem to be the plan Also to be seen if he can put his idea in practice with this personnel. If he does, sky is the limit when he gets a good roster. I bet we are top 10 defense this year if AD is healthy
btw, are kills a team stat or are they quantifying and individual shutting off actions the opposition is trying to execute and doing so within the team scheme. the latter would be awesome, the former can be kept track of by my 4-year old and is sort of already tracked by...the scoreboard.
I assume it would be a mix of both. A kill is 3 consecutive stops? I imagine the team will know how many kills they average in wins and loses and as they get two stops they’ll raise up the intensity to get a kill. If they track kills based on individuals, then I can see Beverley and AD (AD in particular) racking up some kills.
