Ham may end up being wrong but every coach believes they can some how make it happen when no one else could...lol. goes with the territory.
you pretty much have to in a business where your predecessor was fired (often with extreme prejudice) pretty much every time.
I wonder why isn't there a Coaches Association. They are treated like McD employees (hefty paychecks aside).
Ham has to believe in “manna from heaven” kind of bull. If the coach doesn’t believe, he’s never going to get buy in from others.
If was “We Lakers” could get fired for “bad energy” …. be thankful Darvin you work for Jeanie Buss and not Rebekah Neumann. She and Adam …. yowza! Though don’t look at Linda and Kurt sideways.
I'm starting to think he sold them on the Westbrook idea and was one of the main reasons he got the job.
i was saying at the time that i thought the coaching interviews were in part used to audition ideas for what to do with russ. ham seems convinced he's got the goods, so we'll see.
I won’t blame Ham if Russ looks as bad as last season, because you can’t help those who don’t want to be helped. But we can at least hope for Russ to be put in better positions to succeed from the start maybe, if he is and doesn’t, but remains a turnover machine, shot bricker, late game spaz, well, not much you can do.
Rob didn't do Ham any favors that's for sure. Not much of a workable roster. I guess we'll see what he can do with it. I'm not expecting miracles.
to me, the issue seemed to be that russ didn't want to be put into positions in which he could succeed, only into positions in which he was comfortable. and vogel didn't have the job security to overrule him. ham at least has that.
I agree, which is what I meant by you can’t help those who don’t want to be helped. My definition of position to succeed is to get him to do those things he doesn’t want to. Set screens, limit turnovers, shoot only short corner threes, not having the green light to pull up in transition and shoot free throw line jumpers, playing focused defense. Ham can put him in position to do those things by instructing him to do so with accountability if not, and if he doesn’t, that’s on Russ. I do not see it happening though, if Russ is here I see this season being an absolute mess with a toxic locker room not far into the season, and Ham probably having to make hard choices about benching Russ.
i hope the lakers beat writers publish stats on russ's # screens set, # off ball cuts, and # of accurate off ball help rotations. call them the "keep your job" triple doubles.
I imagine Rob asking Ham what made the Milwaukee model work. Ham says things like the whole team buys in, we play defense, and we have shooters. Rob responds, well you're going to have to coach Russ and I can't get you either, shooters or defenders. It's a miracle he signed with us.
well, that's depressing. my guess is ham sold rob on his ability to get lebron and AD to act more like giannis and less like kd/kyrie. if he can, he's worth his weight in gold.
