    Jerry West: Kawhi, I, we, want you to come to the Clippers. We’ll build our whole team around you.

    JW: I’m the Logo, I played for the Lakers and. After my playing days, I put Showtime together, and then I put Kobe and Shaq together. I’m responsible for the Lakers dynasties.

    Kawhi: :::blank stare:::

    JW: I convinced the Warriors they had to sign Kevin Durant. Btw, I’m also responsible for their current dynasty.

    JW: Aren’t you going to say anything?

    Kawhi: All I heard was Lakers and Warriors.

    JW: No son, what I’m saying is, I’m the one who built these dynasties.

    JW: I’m a genius for spotting talent when I see it and then acquiring it.

    Kawhi: Then how come you didn’t convince the Warriors to draft me in 2011?

    To me the biggest hurdle for the Clippers in their pitch to Kawhi is loyalty. That of course is discounting the whole Clippers are LA’s JV team. If I’m Kawhi, I’m asking why the promised Blake the moon and sent him away the same year. I’m sure West and Ballmer have some kind of answer already cooked up but not sure what it could be.

    That’s a great point, the loyalty angle. That’s also the underlying theme of the joke, assuming you know Kawhi’s background. Part of the reason he chose San Diego State, is because SDSU recruited him hard even when he was not on UCLA’s (his preferred school’s) radar, and never gave up. It seems to me this union with the Lakers has been brewing for several years, and the Clippers have only recently (last 9 months) have been speaking a Kawhi Clippers union into existence, only after he demanded a trade to the Lakers.
