But it’s saying DJ is “giving back” 4M this year and next. (or total?) Still a buy out, just not a stretch? He wouldn’t give back money if he has to still play there. That would be a dummkopf. :D

right. stretch is a specific kind of buyout. they just gave the details of the non-stretch buyout. nothing has changed; he'll be a laker.

To clarify what that tweet meant since there was some confusion....
Nothing changed with him being bought out or not ending up here. They're just not going to Deng him. If they stretched out the $15.8m they agreed on, they would be paying him nearly $3.2 m a year for the next 5 years (double the remaining length of the contract + 1 year). He was owed around $9.8m this year and next year. He agreed to give $4m of that up... where the $15.8m figure they're paying comes into play. Then he'll recoup $2.6m of that $4m he's giving up with the vet min he's signing with us.

    Hope that simplifies it.

Hopefully some brave reporter there asks Rob what the DJ signing means for Marc's role with the team.

Oh that would be totally unfair to DJ. If he says no comment in effect then you know Marc's gone. Who's the resident body language specialist here, we'll know if he knows, but yeah someone could be a jerk and do that I suppose. Or just the general he can only comment on his own situation where all his focus rightfully is.

Edit .... just reread that you said for Rob to be asked that. Still uncool question but I'd have a slightly altered take than for what I said above thinking it was DJ getting asked that.

I don't see it as an "uncool" question to ask Rob at all. Right now, we have three centers on the roster in Marc, Dwight and now DJ. Plus, AD told Russ he was going to play some at the 5. To me, that's a logjam. Rob is the team builder and should have some idea about how all these pieces at the 5 are supposed to fit. If Marc is on his way out the door, then there is no problem. If he is staying, someone is going to be doing a lot of sitting. If I was there, i would not be doing my job unless I did ask that question.

    Nice fade on it though.

For me, it's that Asterisks logo on his R shoulder.

Good presser. AD is giddy...I expect this to work much better than the last big we brought on for him.

When mentioning our bigs and guys he was excited to play with, he didn't mention Marc (didn't mention Melo or 'Do either for what it's worth). If you're stringing together breadcrumbs... there's enough to notice. Really would like to know whether he's part of the team or not.

    Here's another DJ interview

He is a very large human. One of the few guys who didn't seem out of place next to Shaq when I actually watched in person. Almost a different subspecies these guys: homo gigantis
