I disagree. I think they are willing to pay Klay and KD, swallow the insane tax bill next season, then they let Draymond walk the next offseason. Now, does KD want to stay? That's a different question.

After thinking about all proposed deals and hypotheticals, I've made my mind up as a lowly fan. I want to keep as much as we can if a deal were to go down...but if NOLA wants the farm, give it to them. This isn't trading for a mid-to-upper tier guy like PG or one coming off a major injury like Kawhi. This is a top 5, probably top 3, player in the league who is just entering his prime. A superstar if there ever was one, to pair with one of the best to ever do it. This sets us up for the future better than anything out there. If NOLA won't cooperate, fine. But Maginka needs to put everyone not named LeBron on the table and do everything in their power to get this done.

not true, any team can afford to do anything they want when it comes to paying luxury tax. We all thought OKC wouldn't want to pay that enormous luxury tax by resigning PG, they did an found other ways to lessen their tax. It was reported that GSW is now in the 9 figure range when it comes to revenue and that amt will only increase when they move to their new stadium, their owner is the owner of Oracle, he dont give an F if he makes money or not with GSW, the team is more of a hobby thing for him and he likes winning.

Key detail from a Knick perspective in the latest story from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Anthony Davis: "Multiple league sources expect (Davis & his agent) to soon deliver word throughout the league that Davis' preferred destination is the Lakers & he'll become a rental player until 2020 with a trade anywhere else." If the Knicks aren't optimistic that Davis will sign a long-term contract with them, there's no reason to make a significant offer to New Orleans and potentially upset players on the current roster if that offer is reported in the media.

Exactly. Come right on out and say it. You're messing with billionaires egos, investments, and money. What could go wrong?

We wouldn't have the cap space in Summer 2020 so this is a useless threat from A.D

I don't think he'll make that demand public. He'll probably try to keep it private as a favor to the Pelicans (to grease the wheels a bit) so that when/if the trade does go down, the Pelicans don't look like they were forced into a situation.

ON A SUNDAY afternoon at the Superdome in December 2014, Rita Benson LeBlanc, the granddaughter of New Orleans Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson, reportedly accosted Benson's wife, Gayle.

Within six days, Tom Benson disinherited his daughter, Renee Benson, and her two children (including Rita) and made Gayle his primary heir. There's way more to this story, of course, and it was the subject of a long and bitter legal drama. But there's a lesson: Be careful when messing with Gayle Benson.

What happens next with Anthony Davis is a huge test for the 72-year-old Benson, who became the Pelicans' owner in March 2018, when her husband of 13 years passed away. She's the NBA's newest owner, one who doesn't have a history of decisions to show a definitive track record, and she presides over an unusual management structure that relies on football executives to oversee her basketball team.

Deciding whether to honor Davis' trade request, deciding when to honor it and deciding what type of trade package the Pelicans should seek are ownership-level decisions. It's as complicated and as stressful of a moment as a sports team owner can have in this day and age. It's a time when leadership and guidance are badly needed.

"She's still learning. I would guess it's going to be a challenge for her," one NBA owner said. "I would think Adam [Silver] would offer guidance if she wanted it."

It's somewhat transparent that Davis is interested in getting to the Los Angeles Lakers, which is why his trade demand is coming now, when other expected bidders are compromised. The Boston C Bags can't really get involved because of trade rules related to Kyrie Irving. The New York Knicks' potential best offer will be murky until their draft position is known in the spring.

    More here...

They'll have to pay a luxury tax of approximately $200M next year for Klay Thompson alone. Let that sink in for a second. Rich people don't like losing money either, believe it or not.

If I'm NY and I can move THJ with Knox or the unprotected pick for AD I'd still do it w/o a gurantee of re-sign.....you get to remove Hardaway contract and you can always trade AD again next yr if the signs aren't there that he'll re-sign and recoup some loses with Hardaway gone as well lol.

We would if we do what we did this offseason. If we don't have a max spot open next offseason, it will be because we got one of KD/Klay/Kawhi/Kyrie...damn, that's a lot of Ks.

Klutch and AD are going to have to force NO's hand.

The argument against that though is if they do it, and it comes close to the trade deadline next season, they will have zero leverage. No one is giving up anything of value for AD to rent him for 4 months.

Yes, but the Pelicans need to realize they aren't always going to have their leverage. That's why they need to act now before AD/Klutch pulls out that card.

Well last year's OKC and this year's GSW are going to be on a different tier of luxury tax. We're talking 4 max players on the same team.

We would if we sign players to one year deals again, even a max 1 year would work.

Then we would have all our youth AND AD.

YEP....dont under estimate "leverage" nor spite, I could see Pelicans trading AD to anyone but us even for less than what we offered out of spite
