I'm excited now. I'm in California and have no way to download, so I might buy it for the long road trip home.

Thanks for the reviews HJ and Barns.

Yeah, he got Outkast weird at the beginning, but on second listen I definitely liked the second half of the album much more than the first.

Sooooo..... I'm not feeling this K.Dot I liked the interview with you know who (no spoiler). I know it'll be hailed as innovative and groundbreaking and win all kinds of awards, based on the subject matter. But I can't imagine anyone still bumping this in a month, but like Kaye's trash albums, his fan base will continue to champion it.

    Disappointed.

I've listened to it a good 5 times. I like the first 5 or so songs less and less, but the second half of the album is still strong to me. Not world breaking, but good

Eh, honestly Yeezus is probably the last mainstream album that I still consistently listen to. And I don't imagine that this new Kendrick joint will be any different. I've listened to it all the way through at least once every day since it's dropped. It blew me away after my first listen. Second listen had me a bit underwhelmed. And since then my enjoyment of the album has grown exponentially each time I listen to it. There isn't a single bad track.

Maybe me being a personal fan of Kanye and Kendrick is blinding me. But I don't think so considering the vast majority of critics and modern hip-hop fans feel the same way. But really I don't care about any of that. Simply put, I have loved each and every one of their projects.

HJ, I consider myself a KDot and Kanye fan too. I just don't like all their music. College Dropout - Classic. Yeezus - trash.
No doubt, Yeezus is hailed by the critics as groundbreaking and a master piece. I'm willing to admit maybe it's me just not getting it. But I listen to it and have one response: WTF. Pimp a Butterfly is nowhere near that bad to me, but I'm not in awe like I was with Good Kid. Maybe he raised my expectations too high. But reading many reviews on line, he surpassed that bar in most people's opinion. So no, you're definitely not alone.

I think it's alright. I've got to keep listening and I'm not sure it's got staying power but I like it.

By the way I've hated almost everything Kanye has actually rapped on for the last 4 years or so. His beats are still fresh and creative, but everything that actually comes out of his mouth I absolutely cannot stand. Yeezus is unlistenable for me.

I've got a lot of these. Eminem and Michael Jackson. Jay Zs Blueprint album over Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. etc. I have a really good mashup of Kanye's good music too.

First off, Eminem is still amazing.

I've never been a big Yelawolf fan, but this new album is really nice. Fuses rap, rock and country. No two songs are anything alike.

^^^ Gonna say it again -- that Yelawolf album (Love Story) is amazing. I've been listening non-stop for 3 days. I'll say, it's not for everyone, as it's definitely not your typical rap album. No guns, rims, or ho's. He gets really deep about his life (past, present, and future). Fuses so many genre's. So different from anything I've ever heard.

Ok, as a huge fan of Kendrick's work on Section 80 and then GKMC....I had a very hard time listening to TPAB. I liked Wesley's Theory, Blacker the Berry has a great message, and I absolutely loved the song he did on Colbert Report (untitled?) even though it didn't make the album.

Outside of that - sure it's not bad.....but it isn't great IMO. Too funky with the beats. His delivery style of late annoys the crap out of me. He's yelling in half his verses, I can't understand s*** that he's saying. And every verse and song is some damn allegory that makes no sense even if I'm able to hear the words.

I don't know what kids are doing these days but I'm not the type of person to hit up rap genius as I listen to an album. I like to discover the meanings and double entendres on my own. Kendrick's music is bordering poetry and is becoming less listenable. Sometimes I just need a song that isn't so damn complex for me to decipher.

Nas is my favorite rapper of all time. I think he's the best. He combined lyrical perfection, story telling, hard beats, impeccable delivery, while still being marketable. I felt like GKMC was more similar to Nas' style, what he's done on TPAB is just over the top.

Does anyone get where I'm coming from? I was a huge huge huge fan of Kendrick's mixtape days, and I thought some of his best work was pre-GKMC (though GKMC is a classic IMO). I know the critics are raving about it....why am I missing the boat?

    You're not.

Agree with everything you said. When it came out, people were raving about it being a classic. I haven't heard much since that first week. I doubt anyone is still listening to it.
