I wouldn't say I'm happy, but I am definitely okay with the signing now. Vets aren't gonna come cheap if they can still play and that's what we want. Guys who are good glue guys and can still contribute. We got that and it's not nearly as bad a deal as first reported.

Well, after stepping back, having a small serving of Roast Garlic Chicken Pasta and couple glasses of Scotch...

    Timofey Freakin' Mozgov!? Really...?

OK...I'll be serious. My take on Mozgov:

    - can score from up close...on face-ups and jump hooks. I like his touch near the basket.
    - good soft hands that can catch a pass.
    - is not a liability at the charity stripe...no Hack-A-Timo here.
    - is a decent rebounder and knows how to use his mass in the paint.
    - reasonably mobile...he's Usain Bolt compared to Slow Roy.
    - will play his role, set picks, hit the glass and not demand the ball as much.
    - no personality issues...no punch ups in the streets.
    - to Zubac..."who's your Daddy?' Should be a good mentor.
    - low expectations and is really a stop-gap signee.
    - I hope he stays healthy to contribute...

Not a sexy pick...not truly a "wtf!?" one either.

Ladies and gents...Timofey Freakin' Mozgov! Timofey Freakin' Mozgov, everybody!

Was anyone else even offering him money? I feel like he was going to get 5 million and Jim and Mitch just shocked his agent and they're sitting there like what did they just offer?

The graphic was cherry picking comparing him to Hibbert in just that one way. There are plenty of statistics where Timofey blew Hibbert out of the water including and maybe most importantly pick-and-rolls. I believe @Savory Griddles was saying we should have just re-signed Hibbert, so I'm taking shots at him!

I'm not saying this is the greatest signing, but it's really not the worst either. In context he's just our new Bogut: a big stiff that sets the tone early and plays 25 minutes a game. In the coming weeks I think we'll look back on this deal and realize it was a decent value.

Ah ok. I see what you mean.

    :Mitchthumb:

I don't think anybody was offering anywhere close to what he got, but I've read some people say that the Lakers are doing some sneaky GoT stuff and setting the market price on these players really high to force others to overpay for role players. I don't see how that would work or benefit us though. People are just watching too much Game of Thrones. Lol.

Mitch: "Tim! You're our first call!"
    Mozgov: "What? Why?"
Mitch "We're thinking of offering you around 60 million. You in?"
    Mozgov: "Are you serious? Really?"
Mitch: "Oh okay hardball eh?? How about 64 million?"
    Mozgov: "YES! Jesus yes! Please!"
Mitch: "GREAT! We just won FA!"

Well...to some "We're the Lakers...we don't do "decent" ya know?" It was really done for fit and team chemistry more than anything. Mozgov is an upgrade over Hibbert. It is not saying much but he won't be a nothing on the floor. If he can replicate some or most of his 2015 Finals showing, then we got some value. $16 mil is a whole lotta coin though...

The FA period is young, we still have wads of cash, I'm not opposed to another stealth signing within the next few days or probably a trade or two absorbing some friendly contracts.

That 16 million translates to literally the exact same contract Bogut has right now (at 11 million) under the old cap. I promise you (and everyone else!) that there will be far, far worse contracts that go out over the next few days.

    Here is my take:

    1. $16 Mil a year with potential option to dump him before end of the deal is not a bad deal.
    2. Lakers obviously had the money to throw around and don't care about paying him Hibbert type money.
    3. Like others have said - he fills a "Bogut" type role. Bogut being a better talent though.
    4. We still have money to add quality to a team that has quality without him.
    5. Rather have him at 16MIL than Jordan Hill or D12.
    6. Perspective given the cap. Remember how much we signed Hill to?

Treat it like putting 20 bucks on a number at the roulette table. Money that you could spent on a very expensive cheeseburger too but you'd rather live a little.

Lakers are not done making moves yet. No splashes expected - again - they don't need one. Let's not forget - we need to pay Clarkson and keep the core together

    Russell
    Clarkson
    Mosgov
    Ingram
    Randle

    Bench:
    Williams
    Nance
    Black
    ???
    ???
    Huertas
    Zubec

Lakers are stocked at Center. Need wings and PF. If we miss on Batum - Gerald Green? If we miss on Horford - Anderson?

If we get Green and Anderson - I kind of like the lineup above.

I put them in the same boat basically. Noah is a little older and a little more hurt, but he's also better than Timofey so... I don't know. Kind of a wash. We're going to see though that Timofey's contract is market value. He's just very slightly overpaid, but we were always going to overpay whoever comes here.

If we sign Turner and sign a backup SF like Marvin Williams or Jared Dudley and re-sign Bass I mean it's not ideal, but at least we filled the roster with veterans who can be great leaders and also contribute.

    Russell/Huertas/
    Clarkson/Lou/
    Ingram/Williams/Brown
    Randle/Nance Jr./Bass
    Mozgov/Black/Zubac
