Actually, it's still possible for Memphis to finish 9th.

Dallas has two remaining - at home against the Suns (W) and on the road against the Spurs (likely L) - they'll likely end the season 33-49. In the event that Dallas TIES with Memphis, Memphis owns the tiebreaker.

New Olreans has ONE game remaining - against the Warriors. Warriors have nothing to play for so it'll be interesting to see how the Pelicans play this one...then again, the Pels are experts at tanking. They're at 33-48 right now...likely wiill end 33-49.

Memphis has 2 games remaining - @Pistons (still in the hunt for the playoffs) and vs Warriors. I think Memphis likely loses to the Pistons, but they'll probably go hard against the Warriors and luckily Warriors will have nothing to play for so hpoeully Memphis can win that game. If the Grizzlies somehow win against the pistons and then lose to the warriors...they'll have the same division and conf record as the Pelicans...so they'll go to the next tiebreaker...which is:

Better winning percentage against teams eligible for playoffs in own conference (including teams that finished the regular season tied for a playoff position).

I actually don't know the answer to this...but someone on twitter just said that if Grizzlies end tied for 9th...that there will be a random draw at the governor's board meeting on Friday to determine if they finish 8th or 9th. Insane!

Can someone abolish this thread after tomorrow? This thread is a constant reminder of 6 years of futility.

Or are we to tank our own tanking?

The Lakers have so much tanking going on on so many fronts, that its hard to separate the different branches. The only clear thing about their strategy is that they crave even more tanking...

Yeah we need to keep this thread unfortunately until we know for sure this team is out of the doldrums...

I would honestly not be surprirsed at all if we missed the playoffs again next year if we don't get anybody (without giving up the kids) thsi summer.

I would actually be very surprised if we didn't make the playoffs next year. I think we are signing someone. Lebron + another year of development from our kids might be enough to get us into the playoffs alone as long as we don't get massacred by the injury bug again.

We will have Lebron, Deng's corpse, Ingram, Lonzo, Kuzma, Hart, Wagner, our 10th pick and cap holds putting us at around 73 million. That leaves us 36 million in free agent money. If we don't use it on one of the big free agents (Kawhi/KD/Klay/Kyrie) we will likely roll it over to try to sign AD. This offseason though, I see us using the cap space on our rentals a little better. We aren't going to try the "Playmaker" route again. Maybe a large one year deal to Bogdanovic. Maybe we try to correct the Lopez error. Offer Bogdanovic a one year 21 million dollar deal and Lopez a one year 15 million dollar deal. Get the shooting around Lebron that he desperately needs. Resign Caruso. Use the room exception on McGee maybe?

If we strike out on the big guns and fill in with one-year rentals like Rondo again...I swear to God.

Holy crap so this scenario ACTUALLY played out and now we have a 3-way tie between the Mavs, Grizzlies and Pelicans, all at 33-49!

I am reading through Twitter right now to see what exactly is going to happen...Memphis owns tiebreaker though on Dallas, and they split with New Orleans...I really have no idea what's going to happen!!! I really hope Grizzlies stay at 9th though so the pick conveys!

I think lotto position is done by tiebreakers. I think it's a coin flip situation. A lot is riding on this one, as Memphis really wants to give up that pick.

So if Minny wins today do we get the 10th pick more likely?

So basically our pick is 11th or 12th. Oh well, could be worse.
