The Official Tank Thread - 2019 Edition

Good tank today. Solid effort by everyone down the stretch, and Bron made sure we tank well in the last 10 seconds.

Man we are pro at tanking, it would be remarkable if it weren’t pathetic. You guys shouldn’t get your hopes up about Zion though, we are not jumping to the #1 pick, finishing like 7th worst gives us something like a %20 chance of jumping to the top 4. Still, we’re on track to get a single-digits pick.

 

Let's get that good pick, then trade it in a package for a superstar. Simple.







Then we do it again next year, just because. Right?

 

I must have remembered wrong. Maybe it was if we get 10th or 8th we have those odds, or maybe the podcast I was listening to was mistaken.

I still think if we get a top 10 pick we trade it for a star. IF NO will deal with us it’s gone to them for AD. I don’t think this FO wants any part of developing any more youth, they had zero interest in Randle and he was very well along, no interest in Zu and he had solid backup potential, no interest in Svi, and they’ve taken heat for 2 years about drafting Zo, and had to hear about Ingram’s “slow” development for 3 years. I think they want a ready made team of vets, no more kids. It’s not what I would prefer, but that’s how I see their line of thinking.

Had we hung onto Russell and Randle we’d have a version of like Van Exel and Eddie Jones part 2 (not in position, but like how they would have developed into solid reliable players), but the FO wants stars or nothing, all shortcuts and no building towards something like we did in the 90’s. If the FO acted with the same lack of patience in the mid 2000’s we’d have given up on Bynum before he blossomed too, he was taken in ‘05 and didn’t really break out until ‘08,’09. I’d love to see us try to build back up again to a playoff team, but they’ve made their choice, this has been the plan for almost every offseason for years now, difference was then we were already in the playoff every year, and our star wasn’t on a clock speeding up every day. I guess that’s also the good and bad of landing LeBron, once you’ve signed up for him, you get all that comes with that.

 

True, but I still think acquiring Anthony Davis and having a client that big in LA would take priority over drafting a client that will make pennies comparatively. If NO refuses to deal with us, then of course I can see us selecting a Klutch client. Hell, Rich Paul might be a better talent evaluator than Magic anyway if you go off of Magic’s tweets about college players over the years, and take into accounts reports that he ignored our scouting department and drafted Moe on his own. Seems smart to ignore Jesse Buss and Ryan West after all the solid late and 2nd round picks they’ve gotten us.

 

I think if you replace Zo and BI with Rondo and KCP, Kuz with McGee, and Hart with Magic, that’s a perfect photo.
