Why exclude Zu? At least 15 minutes as Lopez back-up. Also will take Dong out=more minutes for Brewer (D) and Kuzma (O).

I think Zu might have trouble in our system in the beginning. We push the pace so much that he might not be able to hang, a small ball C like Nance/Randle helps. Ideally one of them develops a better shot (here's to hoping!).

As good as Kuzma was, there is a wide gap between summer league and the NBA, so I give him every chance to win those minutes (Zu too). In fact I'd say those minutes are really down to Kuzma/Deng/Zubac, whoever can win them.

Last time Deng was useful was at PF, if he can find some game again, maybe he can raise his trade value a little where dumping him with a 1st becomes reasonable. I know last year he was terrible, but he has been a great player in this league for a long time - the least you do is have an open mind and give him a shot in training camp to play himself into a backup spot.

Lastly at the end of the day, we have a lot of young guys, so you want to try and get some of the vets a decent chunk of minutes too so we can actually win a few games. I like Brewer, KCP, Lopez and maybe even Deng (the Miami PF version of him if it still exists) getting some good burn.

We are already trying to develop Lonzo, Clarkson, Ingram, Randle and Nance - that's without Kuzma, Zubac and Hart who could all get significant minutes this year. If all of these young guys are in the rotation getting heavy burn, we will lose a lot of winnable games from lack of experience.

Zu is going to come to camp in marvelous shape, and be unstoppable in the post. Can't wait to see it.

The great thing is we have people to play those mins, Zu can play backup 5 and Nance plays backup 4, Kuzma can play more if he earns it, Brewer can play more mins too. Randle in great shape maybe deserves 36 mins a game. So it doesn't bother me going into training camp giving everyone a shot. Whoever deserves it most should play - we have to try and win some games this year.

So I currently see it as:

    Lonzo / Ennis
    Pope / Clarkson / Blue / Hart
    Ingram / Deng / Brewer
    Randle / Nance / Kuzma
    Lopez / Zubac / Bryant

    Caruso on a two-way.

No spots left unless the Blue deal was only an invite?

Was partial guarantee so im guessing we can just cut anytime and use the exception?

    Ball/Caruso/Ennis
    KCP/JC/Hart
    Ingram/Kuzma/Brewer
    Randle/Nance/Deng
    Lopez/Bogut/Zubac

The forward rotation will be a headache to figure out.

What do you see happening with Bogut ? I think either Blue is cut or Bryant spends time in the G league to make room for him.

I think this has a a 1% chance of happening, but I'd go:
    Ball
    KCP
    Ingram
    Kuzma
    Lopez

The defense isn't horrible. KCP is pretty solid. Ingram and Lopez are sound. Worried about Ball. Kuzma has shown me enough to feel confident that he'll improve.

    2nd unit would be
    Caruso / Ennis
    Clarkson / Hart
    Deng / Brewer
    Randle / Nance
    Bogut / Zu

Odd man out is Bryant. If he sticks, Caruso is sent back and forth, which is likely.

    So we’re at 16.

    Ball/Ennis/Caruso
    KCP/Clarkson/Hart
    Ingram/Kuzma/Brewer
    Randle/Nance/Deng
    Lopez/Zubac/Bogut/Bryant

I’d be super torn between Caruso and Bryant. Like Bryant as a backup big because it’s likely Lopez and Bogut miss some games. But, really like what Caruso brings, even if he’s 3rd string. Seems like Ball may miss time here and there as well, and I say it every season, you need 3 PG’s. I don’t trust Clarkson to fill in there, Hart doesn’t have great handles, KCP is absolutely not a PG, we need 2 guys that can fill in and run offense when Ball is out. I like Bryant, but I think we could survive more with all our PF’s and C’s if some went down than we could at guard.

^^ how many can we keep until the G league starts? I'm sure Caruso is getting sent down, but if we have to keep him until then, I'm wondering if someone else gets cut or goes on IR.

I’m not sure how many players are on a 2-way contract. I know Caruso is, so that’s 45 days we have him, but i thought Blue was too. Not sure what Bryant’s deal is. I thought we were able to keep up to 17 if those past 15 were on 2-way contracts, but I could be wrong.

Caruso is the only one with a 2-way contract right now. That means everyone else is on an actual deal.

The truth is we need to get rid of Deng. He actually showed some solid minutes when he played, but not enough to really compete for minutes.

Still, I believe we're technically at a full roster right now even if we have over 15 because Caruso's contract is unique. I don't think we have to cut anyone else.

Exactly there's nothing for him on the roster. He doesn't do anything better than anybody else. Right now he's a middling level veteran a lot like Brewer. Mitch and Jim really screwed the pooch with this contract.

It's going to take something serious to move him.
