I thought it would be cool to have a thread to discuss Technology and Electronics, gadgets, apps, computers, etc, etc

    Made 2 purchases this weekend.

First up is the Orbi (Netgear product), which is amazing. It's a router, with 1 or 2 satellites ($400 for 1 satellite, $475 with 2). Previously, my wifi in back bedrooms was non-existent. Couldn't watch Neflix in those rooms. I upgraded my router about a year ago, but it didn't improve anything. The Orbi not only gives me 4 bars all over the house, but automatically connected to laptops, TVs, printers, and phones. I give this a highly impressed 5 out of 5 stars.

The other thing I bought was an Amazon FireTV (or you can get the FireStick). It was $90 at BestBuy and works great. Easy set up. I jailbroke it to add Kodi. A lot of the Kodi movies available are choppy, but I'm not sure how much of that is the product and how much was my previously bad wifi. Kinda cool, but it has all of the Summer League games on there. Amazon FireStick / FireTV is a solid 4 out of 5.

So in the police world, watches are a big deal... It's a small device that has all the information you need without having pull your phone outta your pocket and what not.

I've been wanting to get a smart watch, but to be honest, I'm not going to be using all the features it has... I won't use it for music, messaging, nor fitness stuff. But I am a fan of the LED/touch screen... I'm looking for a basic smart watch, one that tells me the time, date, and maybe when I get an email notification.... Does anyone have any recommendations? I like the smart watches, but I don't see the point in spending 300 bucks on a smart watch when I won't be using most of the features.....

For Apple, I suppose the only choice is the Apple Watch, which I have and love, even though I don't use most of the features on it either. It's good for reading quick texts and notifications from apps instead of having to take out the phone, and it looks good. If this your route, I would wait until next week, they're most likely announcing the Apple Watch Series 3, which means the Series 2, which I have, will probably be discounted.

I can't speak much to Android Watches, but they definitely have more variety. I think Samsung just came out with their new line, and there are plenty of standard to luxury versions of Android Watches. One my friend has is a Fossil, which is relatively reasonable and does what you request, and have more modern styles.

Yeah I have Apple Watch and Samsung watch (previously owned a Samsung, currently have apple) as my two top choices for if you have and iPhone or android phone respectively. You really can't go wrong with either of them even if you find a second hand first generation version of either of them.
But on the cheaper end of the scale I've also heard relatively good things about Pebble Time which I think you could get under $75 or so. Gives you notifications like texts or if calls come through. Can't make calls obviously. But if you're not concerned about that feature, it could a good option. Thought about getting one myself.

:Laugh:So is Uber and AirBnb. Lifesavers actually.

Definitely gonna get a Watch Series 3 soon. Having my entire music library available on my wrist, with or without my cellphone, is an awesome feature.

Isn't Samsung's flagship phone the same price?

I don't get the big fuss about the price tag of the iPhone X. Currently, the iPhone 7 Plus was the highest end iPhone and it goes for like $900 at Best Buy.

As an iPhone user who hasn't upgraded in 3 years, I'm really looking forward to dropping $1000 on the X. I'm used to the iOS interface and my smartphone is a huge part of my life. It looks like it's going to be a beautiful device with great user interface.

I didn't realize phones were going for that much.

I got this one for $100 and it serves all my needs.

When I got my HTC One a couple years ago, I think it was $200 with the two year contract agreement. I'm thinking of stepping down on my phone though. HTC One, Galaxy and iPhone are like the top of the line. I've come to realize I don't need that.
