Yes, now we can end this Russ trade talk stuff already. I'm ready to watch the young fellas grow while GS and Cleveland rule the NBA for a few more years.
I'm relieved! We won't be making any drastic gamble. Now on to who our mysterious FA target is. Edit: I also hope Thunder will sign/trade for Biff and shut the Clip down for good.
Totally forgot about the biff situation... Russell re-signing makes me think they have a deal in place for Griffin
Im happy as well, yes wb is great but he wasnt going to take us far with what we wouldve had to give up to get him. I hope he stays in okc for rest of his career but hope we surpass them soon
How is everyone so certain that this means he for sure stays in OKC? The extension could just make him more enticing as a trade option at the deadline next season as it gives the receiving team security knowing they have him for at least 2 more seasons. Seems this extension makes a trade more likely as the teams gunning for Russ will be willing to give up more in return for a player on a 3 year versus 1 year contract. Not buying the koolaide, I still think he's gone from OKC within 1 year.
I'm glad! We now get to keep rolling with the kids and see what they are in two years. They might be nothing but at least they'll be ours. (And I don't think they'll he nothing, I like them a lot.) We'll see now if this was the domino I expected though in regards to Ingram. Ifor Ingram inks his deal within the next day or so then it's fairly clear what we were waiting on. If not then I was wrong to worry!
I don't see it that way. To me it looks like Westbrook just wants to prove to the whole world that he doesn't need Kevin Durant especially with Durant leaving because he didn't need Westbrook and for some stupid reason thought he couldn't win with him when they lost to an all time great team just BARELY. Westbrook has a chance to make himself legendary. If he can bring the Thunder back to a championship level as the man of a team without KD especially for a city that's never seen an NBA championship I mean he'll just forever be a hero there. Like I said earlier I wanted Westbrook in a Lakers uniform badly. He's one of the best players in the NBA and if we didn't have to give up Russell or Ingram I would've been ecstatic. Some things just aren't meant to be, but this offseason has already been a win. We sent the greatest player in franchise history off in a career finale for the ages, we got a terrific young coach to lead the young kids, got two more excellent prospects in the draft, and improved the team in free agency. This isn't like 2014 when all we had going for us was cap space. We have a lot more and that's why at the end of the day I'm okay with this.
I had no reservations that OKC will try to keep Westbrook in tow. He's the face of their franchise...keeps them relevant and a free agent draw. So...
Not going to mince words here - I wanted Westbrook badly. He was the guy I thought could take this franchise to the next level. I would have given up a couple of our youngsters to get him, too. Not Ingram. But I would have given up Russell and Randle. Would have been even better just to add Westbrook to what we have of course next summer. So I'm bummed. We're going nowhere for the next several years unfortunately. I don't see a difference maker FA coming here. I don't even know who that would be any more. Westbrook fit that description to me. Ah well, another one gets away. Jim will be stepping down soon enough.
really bummed they won't be able to land him in FA but also happy that they won't deal away the kids for him
