Of course he doesn't wanna be the guy to ditch the franchise as well and get trashed by OKC fans, but no way he takes an extension right now. It's a business, so at this moment if OKC isn't okay with waiting until the offseason then it's on them if they wanna take that risk. If he does come, you think D-Lo gonna be okay shifting to SG? Or D-Lo gonna bring the ball up court and Westbrook gonna play SG? On paper, some things gotta be worked out if they're gonna play together. Egos aside, it could easily work. But if Westbrook signs, we package Russell with someone like Clarkson/Randle for a star SG/PF?
what business though? The ext. Westbrook could sign now would give him the EXACT amt he would get if he signs a new contract with OKC next year. Its not a business to him IMO, he wants to leave. Hou ended up with more cap space with Dwight not resigning and they gave Harden the same opt. as OKC offered to Westbrook but Harden took his.
Yep! That's why they've got to trade him. If they offered him the extension and he said no, the he's just not interested in staying. That's okay, but that means trade him now when you can make a killing.
Well my point wasn't so we could trade for him lol.....it was more to say hes leaving okc to whom i dont know but ill wait for that day and take our chances. Im pretty sure i agree with your other pt in that if wb did take the 2yr ext. mgt would give up alot to okc and im afraid of the aftermath even with wb for the next 2 yrs
I'm not advocating for it. I hope that's clear. I know I'm pissing off a lot of people by bringing up the idea. I'm just saying I believe it's inevitable that Russell get traded if he won't sign an extension. I also believe that if the Lakers see that as true, they'll be in on the bidding for him. I hope it's not as much as I fear, but I think there's some clear signs that a) Russell is going to be out of there soon and b) the Lakers are going to want to grab him.
In other Russell news WOJ says OKC putting on the full court press to get him to extend. Sources: OKC in serious talks about Russell Westbrook contract renegotiation Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical 48 minutes ago Russell Westbrook averaged 23.5 points, 10.4 assists and 7.8 rebounds last season. (AP) Thad Foucher of Wasserman Media Group, the agent for Oklahoma City superstar Russell Westbrook, is engaged in serious talks with the Thunder on a contract renegotiation that could secure Westbrook through the 2018-19 season in Oklahoma City, league sources told The Vertical. No deal has been finalized for the five-time All-Star guard, but there’s momentum toward a three-year, $85 million-plus maximum contract renegotiation agreement, league sources told The Vertical. The proposed deal would include a player option on the third year, which would clear the way for Westbrook to return to free agency in 2018. In the structure of a proposed deal, the renegotiation would move Westbrook’s salary in 2016-17 from $17.8 million to a $26.5 million max salary. Westbrook would make $28.5 million in 2017-18 and $30.6 million in the third year under the proposed renegotiated deal. Oklahoma City is able to offer the extension because it has the appropriate salary-cap space available. For now, Westbrook is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent in 2017, and a new contractual commitment to Oklahoma City in the wake of Kevin Durant’s departure could be instrumental in recruiting another elite free agent to the Thunder’s talented core next summer.
Part of me is saddened because I'm a huge fan of Westbrook. Another part is happy that this means the Lakers won't be trading D'Angelo or Ingram anytime soon. I think both will be superstars down the road and there will be a Paul George, an Anthony Davis, or maybe these young guys will all form a super team together with Russ, Ingram, maybe Towns, Simmons, or Booker.
i sort of hope he signs the extension, for several reasons. i also hope he can lure another FA to play with him, and they move to seattle. is this all too much to ask? no? ok, i hope that FA is blake griffin, and that the clippers then sink into the ocean.
This just means that he'll sign with us in the summer of 2019 after we go 74-8 and beat the Thunder in the WCF
