I know. Why wouldn't you add a top 10 player to the #2 seed in the East for essentially NOTHING?

PG will only be 27 in May. So there is a several year window for him to remain in his prime while the young talent to develop. BI and Zu may be a couple years away from being rock solid contributors but they should be still be capable as early as next season of being at least viable starters. If the team keeps DAR, he's certainly closer to being a viable #2 to George. Nance is already playing like a vet. Speaking of vets, Mozgov and Deng are still around. Presumably one of Black or Brewer. And the Lakers would have cap space to add additional veteran help. Magic is preaching patience so I think he'd be more likely to acquire PG as the leader for this team as the remaining youth hopefully develop into the core of a contender than feel that IF he acquires PG, then he has to acquire another star. Not saying that it won't be the case because if the right combination of deals presents itself, then certainly he should jump on it. But I don't think acquiring one star necessitates acquiring another if the FO believes that they can just grow a star internally.

Boston obviously knew that to have any chance at PG, they had to include that pick. Everything lead up to that point was just posturing.

If Boston offers Jaylen Brown + the Nets 2017 pick (and then whatever else on the side like Amir Johnson's expiring contract), I can see Indy seriously considering it.

Then the Lakers sign PG in 2018 and leaves Boston with nothing.

That's why if you're the Lakers you try and get PG now instead of going "oh we'll just sign him in 2018". He goes to Boston and joins Thomas and Horford and makes the ECF and he isn't going anywhere summer 2018.

Bird will send PG to C Bags before he sends him to Magic and the Lakers. If he goes to Boston, they are the #2 team in the East and I don't think he'll leave the next year to come babysit.

I wonder. If you're Boston, do you slide Crowder to sg (he's listed at 6'6") and PG plays sf? The defense on the wings would be lockdown. IT/PG13/Horford/Crowder with Bradley as their spark off the bench. Smart comes in to lock down opposing point guards...that is a team built to fight Cleveland.

He'll be a C-Bag... I don't know how you can be a Kobe/Lakers and play for the enemy but he won't be the 1st one

I've been under the impression that the posturing has been coming from Boston not wanting to give up Jae Crowder in both Butler/George trades. Both Indy and Chi want Crowder+BKN 1st.

I think they want more than that. I'm sure Magic told Bird we'll give him a Top 3 and Ingram and maybe more in the summer. Meanwhile Boston's offer remains the same. I'd still hold on but we'll see.

I tend to disagree. If he goes to Boston I think he stays.

A good point, Indiana isn't a big market and a FA destination. They might like our kids plus pick more than just the nets pick.

Definitely, but those are the two main pieces to the trade.

Neither team does it without those pieces to start.

The thing about that is the Lakers offer then crumbles if they don't get that top 3 pick. Does Indy want to take that gamble when they can just assuredly get the Nets pick?

Does Boston pull the pick in the summer? I don't see why they would. Boston can "win" any trade offer but we can fight back this summer better than we can now.

I agree we can make a better trade offer in the summer than we can now. It's why I've suggested waiting until the summer to pursue PG rather than a deadline deal.

What I'm saying is does Indiana want to wait on that when they can just do a deal with Boston now that assures them a high 2017 1st round pick?

If Boston isn't blowing me away, I'd wait. I'd need something like Crowder/Rozier/Brooklyn 1st/Brooklyn 1st next year. I need to get my socks knocked off to move right now.

Boston would be crazy to give up anything for a 1 year rental. He's PG -- Purple and Gold. No way he wants to go to the C Bags.
