Ennis signing long extension confirmed. Luke has figured out how to use quicker guards. Lord help us all and the league.

Ennis with a "resign me" game.
I really wish the Ennis era would end.

I didn't watch the game, so I looked at Chook's highlights.

Ennis isn't too bad when he actually finishes layups.

Eh, he fooled us at the end of last season too. “He’s decent”, we said. “We could do worse, we need a cheap third string PG”, we said. Wrong. Time to look elsewhere, same as the Sacre situation, he’s gotten a long enough look and he is what he is, time to give someone else the opportunity.

Ennis believes in one "prove it" late season game to trick an FO to sign him:giggle:

    Hahaha

But dude does have a minimum non-guaranteed deal and if it isn't part of a trade or cap-clearing move then I totally see that type of contact being held onto next season for several reasons (ie cheap, contract is of title competing depth value, trade fodder for next trade deadline, #2019Plan cap holder, etc.)

We shouldn't waive him just to waive him, unless we need the roster spot or cap-ital.

That's obvious! Either use the entire room exception or the MLE on a legit backup PG unless we can't lock up BLo to a discounted team deal using our remaining cap and his bird rights.

Hopefully Zo makes that decision easier for us, but if he doesn't then that's a tough call to make: using our exception on BLo or a legit backup PG?

Ennis is fine as a third string PG. The issue is we don’t have a second string PG.

Yep. Ennis was fine when Zo was healthy and JC was playing. He rarely played more than 10 minutes, if he ever played at all.

If we want a better 3rd string PG in free agency, be prepared to pay a lot more.

That being said, I'd strongly think of dumping Ennis and bringing in a backup PG through the draft if we don't trade the 1st rounder we acquired from Cleveland. Ennis has reached his peak. A draft pick has potential to be better.

The problem is even as a 3rd stringer, Caruso is better

Caruso's size (6'5) makes him a better fit for the way we play, especially switching on defense, throwing outlet passes, and finishing at the rim on fast breaks.

Ennis seems to need a lot of IT style picks set for him in order to be effective. Without a hard pick, he seems to rush his shots at the rim. Cutting off the ball, and finishing at the rim, doesn't seem to be something he'll ever become comfortable doing. Ditto with catch and shoot.

I'd still opt for finding a better 3rd string PG candidate in the draft if we still have that 1st rounder. Hopefully someone with more lateral footspeed and a better 3pt shot than Ennis and Caruso.

I don’t agree with your first statement, but I agree with everything else. Ennis was never fine, because we were always an injury away from him actually playing, he was always a looming threat, that’s not fine. He was so bad he lost his spot to Caruso out of nowhere. The rest, I said basically the same in my last post. It’s time, same as it was with Sacre, to look elsewhere. That’s how you get a look at a Zubac, a Nance Jr, a Thomas Bryant, new talent with actual potential. Ennis needs to go, and we need to look to the free agency, 2nd round of the draft, the G-League, foreign leagues, wherever it may be, but it’s time for a new player to get a shot.

Ennis and Caruso are both not NBA material. Ennis is a G League type of guy and Caruso is best served playing in Europe.

There isn't even potential to say "lets keep him as a 15th guy"...what you see is the finished product.

Caruso looks good against teams with soft D, but if you pressure the ball, he doesn’t seem so hot.

Ennis has been playing with confidence and effective lately. I guess I trust the coaches behind the scenes to know if he suddenly had something click, or if he’s playing for a contract and this is fools gold.

We’ve done G League, we’ve tried Wiley veteran foreigners, and low level FA’s with little tread left. These guys look familiar?

I’m ready for a solid veteran backup PG. Maybe it ends up being IT this year, but it’s time for someone decent that can perform consistently every game.

Caruso has shown me enough flashes offensively and defensively during the season that I'm all aboard keeping him as the 3rd string PG.

And while his hair might say retirement, his game says rookie. I think he'll improve
