I loved this Op-Ed from Rand Paul about the Rhinocare plan drafted by the Republican establishment that failed to pass. It's a stump speech with a lot of red meat, but I loved the part about being able to join Co-Ops and ditch insurance companies altogether.

I won't pretend I know all the ins and outs of ObamaCare or significant changes proposed by GOP

What I do know is a lady I work with has a husband and 2 small children. Her ObamaCare rates went from $150 two years ago to $650. A month. Articles I've read say they are going up more this year and next.

Also, 1/3 of counties in the US only have 1 insurance option, as most made their money and closed up shop.

As Trump said last night, he can come up with the greatest program known to man and no Democrats will vote for it. The same was true of Obama. And who gets screwed? Us (or those needing the insurance).

I like that Trump is willing to negotiate and they're trying to fix it. But I doubt it gets passed. And people will suffer. No matter what side of the aisle you support, they are all complicit.

People want affordable prices and since obamacare went into effect. Everyones insurance i knew was going up by doubled or more easily. Practically working just to pay for benefits.

Obamacare has it's faults. There's no denying it, but the country needed a starting point, especially for people who couldn't get insurance in the first place for things like pre-existing conditions.

The problem is with the capitalistic model of the American Healthcare system. Whether drug companies are more interested in turning a profit than helping the patient, or whether the government is trying to leverage the system for their benefit, like you said John, the loser is always the people.

Really, the only healthcare system that would work "for the people" is a Socialism based one. However, it is not without it's flaws itself. Who's going to pay for it? and Quality of care suffers due to lack of incentives and government controlled costs.

There really is no happy medium unless there is buy in from both parties on the system, but for American's, especially in today's political atmosphere, that is far from close to happening.

    Here's a starting point.

    1) Get rid of the AMA's limitations on how many aspiring doctor's can attend medical school. They are a cartel that's ruining the free market with quotas.

Read this article to learn how their doing it.

    2) Medicare needs to go. It's screwing up the free-market since it cannot negotiate prices for drugs. Also, since Medicare sets prices for medical services instead of allowing the market to decide what's fair, prices stay static and hardly ever change. Why would a medical device maker, a pharmaceutical company, or a doctor charge less $$ than what Medicare or Medicaid cover? They have no incentive to do so. That's why operations like Lazik, which has never been covered by Medicare/Medicaid dropped 38% in price in only 5 years after it was introduced. Price fixing never worked in socialist countries like the Soviet Union, China, Cuba, or North Korea, so why continue to do it with Medicare?

    3) The cost of creating a new drug is enormously expensive thanks to FDA regulations. It costs $2.56 billion on average just to get FDA approval, and a post-approval research costs $312 million. This article shows why the cost is so high, thanks largely to the FDA.

    4) Join a patient/physician co-op and ditch employer-provided health insurance. Employer's started providing health insurance starting in WWII due to wage controls levied by the government. Instead of negotiating prices with doctors, patients simply let the insurance cover costs. With a co-op, patients and doctors do the negotiating. Cutting out the middle-man.

President Trump warned House Republicans on Thursday that he will leave ObamaCare in place unless they approve legislation to repeal and replace it.

Trump officials meeting with the House GOP conference said Trump is done negotiating over the legislation, which was set to come up for a vote Thursday but was delayed.

Budget Director Mick Mulvaney, a former member of the House Freedom Caucus that has been negotiating with Trump, told the GOP conference that Trump wants a vote on Friday during a dramatic closed-door meeting, according to a GOP source in the room.
If the vote fails, Trump will move on to other priorities and ObamaCare will stay as the law of the land, Mulvaney said.
Rep. Chris Collins (R-N.Y.) confirmed the Trump administration's message after the meeting. Trump is done negotiating, he said.

"We have to have a vote tomorrow. He expects it to pass, but he's moving on if for some reason it didn't," Collins said.

What are your thoughts on this? In my immature moments, this is my attitude. But Trump, as POTUS, should be fighting for everyone, even if he's the bad guy and takes the blame.

IMO Rinocare is no better than Obamacare. If Trump doesn't see that, then he's only furthering his chance of losing the 2020 election.

I don't know what major changes they have planned. I also don't see Trump running again.

Trump has promised too many things. That's the only reason I could think of for him to abandon a project.

I also don't think his bill is much better than Obamacare.

Dead on Arrival. I think Trump is going to push a vote so constituents can see who voted against it.

Winning for everyone. Democrats won this one. Enjoy it. More ObamaCare for everyone.

The immature side of me loves this. Can't wait for the whole thing to come crashing down and Obama and liberals get to take all the blame.

Except it doesn't work that way. Republicans are the majority party. They were going to get blamed if it passed and people
lost their insurance. And if it didn't pass (like now) their right flank will blame the moderates within their own ranks. Meanwhile the position of actual liberals has always been single payer.

It's funny you say your loving this, because I'm down right giddy watching the Republicans squirm now that they actually have to govern as oppose to voting for repeal the past 7 years knowing their would be no consequences.

This was Trump's get out of jail free card. He railed on Obamacare, he and the republicans promised something better, but really had no better plan. So now he gives an ultimatum to back Congress into a corner, pass this bad healthcare system, or else.

Now he walks away saying "see I did all I can. It's not my fault Congress wouldn't approve it".

He actually played this rather masterfully.

He played it like a business person which is how he's approached most everything. I thought it would be an interesting approach and boy was that spot on. :D

I think in some ways it's a great thing and in a lot of ways it's a terrible thing.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is planning to introduce a single-payer healthcare bill in Congress.

The Vermont senator said during a town hall Saturday he plans to introduce a "Medicare for all" bill "within a couple of weeks," Vermont Public Radio reported.

“It is a commonsense proposal, and I think once the American people understand it, we can go forward with it,” Sanders said after the town hall meeting.
