Team wasn't playing with energy, he put Metta in to prove a point?

I think you got, what others are missing with a more spurious analysis of this. It is not about Luke being Boron (please). I said in the game thread that Luke made some gambles in the game today. His investments in players and lessons is what he is about. We had the chance to win, but the Mavs came back on an upward swing. To be a good team we need to not just buy low and beat teams that are tired, overconfident or waning. Luke was saying if we win we have to do it by effort throughout the whole match, we don't have a superstar that can bail us out like a Westbrook etc. Would I be concerned if we did this often - yes. But it is an investment in the future.

He backs his players, and that is why he kept Meta in. He did give Deng a long leash, and though I am disappointed in him, am sure that if we are to get value from Deng we can't abandon him to the bench. Is this a double standard that I would not allow with Brown, or Byron? Maybe, but you have to know your personal, and I feel this is not just Boron level ineptitude, but gives the message that learning is more important a single win.

I do think that this was the game we needed to win to keep our momentum, and would rather we would have lost in Sactown, but it is what it is.

i think both brown and byron had failed in previous stops and were failing in exactly the same ways when fans turned on them.

the players' sentiments towards luke, combined with early and obvious improvements should buy him a lot of leeway here.

we'll see less of mwp when things are going well, and maybe a bit more when they're not. more importantly, i think his presence on the floor will always be symbolic more than tactical (in a game sense).

Only time mwp should be in is either they're blowimg someone out and they're getting blown out. that foul on barnes jump and his put back attempt.so something youd expect from dleague scrub to do

For everything World Peace can't do in games, he never stops putting in the work even at his age and for that I say 'Thank you'.

Would love for him to mentor Nwaba with those quick hands and physical defense the last few weeks.

Amazing to me there's no players being reported having improved their defense physically or mentally with MWP having practiced in the off season 2 years with our guys like Julius and Clarkson and Russell .....and having been on the playing roster and practicing with him for two whole seasons. Has there been one instance of us noticing an improvement on defense in one of our guys and that guy saying yeah I owe it to MWP and what he has shown and taught me? Not wanting to crack on MWP. Just bottles my mind that we suck so hard on D and here is one of the all time greats on the team for that express purpose, teaching/coaching, that could certainly get someone's attention if he was of a mind to.

Well hopefully all these guys have gotten something from him. But they suck so often and not one article this year has any of the key players talking about how he has helped them. Sucks also they haven't mentioned it to Tania Ganguli or any of the other beat writers if he has.

i love metta and everything but i kinda doubt his ability to successfully "mentor" players simply due to the fact that he's batsh*t crazy

Maybe they just suck? World Peace can't make some of these guys be able to play if they can't play.

He's a high-character guy and he understands b-ball very well and that's what matters to the Lakers as a mentor. He's worked hard to erase his past. He went from being one of the most hated players by the league to winning the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award, donating all or some of his '11-'12 salary to mental health causes as well as auctioning off his championship ring for the same. ftm if anybody knows how to teach someone how to take off-court issues and do a total 180 turn-around, he does and that's a valuable asset, he has total cred in that area. Yeah he's eccentric, but so is Phil, burning weed-smelling incense and beating a war drum. Eccentric is ok.

Probably helped him back then. At least he's the one who called himself out for doing that. Come on man...he changed his name to Metta World Peace, he's got to be alright.
