i'm guessing the mavs don't catch denver or portland and end up finishing 10th. it's ok; they dug a huge hole early when they had a lot of injuries and were still committed to playing untenable lineups.

if the health issues resurface (specifically dirk), they could fall back down again, too.

anyway, lots more fun to watch a team win instead of rooting for lotto balls.

Carlisle can coach, man; he always seems to make something out of nothing.

You'll get a nice pick this year. Up to $34 million in cap space. I'd focus on rebuilding the next 2 years. I don't think Dallas will tank; but if they get a top 10 pick this year and in next years's draft; that's a good place to start.

Well, Frye expires next year, 2 years before D Will. Deron plus Acey don't think works. RJ, James Jones and Chris Anderson for DW works. Anderson and Jones expire and RJ is only 2.5 million until Deron would be let go.. So we shed a little cap space. Probably waive Jones and some unused end of the bench player to make room. I don't love it, but could deal with it.

It would kill DW's fantasy value on my team. :/

Like the Noel trade for the Mavs, I think they can groom him into their new Tyson Chandler.

They are tall, great wingspan, and athletic. That's about the end of the TC comparisons. He's got quicker hands on d for steal, is better shot blocker, and has better offensive game already that Ty ever did. On the down side, he shorter and a lot lighter that Ty, is more likely to get pump faked, and while more versatile offensively, sometimes tries to do too much.

    The Mavs are only 2 back from 8th? Noel, Curry, and Barnes are playing well together. Dirk's scoring this months; 8, 9, 9, 25, 20, 14, 18, 24, 8, 18, and 8.

In Feb, 14.6 ppg, 7 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.3 spg, and .6 bpg on 43, 44 and 91% shooting. There must have been some magic, in that old silk hat.

He still has game, but his days of playing a full season are probably over.

Speaking of HB, that last shot was bad. Fade away, contested 20 footer with ATL in the penalty? I'm not crazy about Dirk's rushed 3, a couple min earlier, as well.Very winnable game. At least Curry is still playing well. Him and Salah had some nice strips, late.

honestly, i think the mavs need to be focusing on losing right now. i know it's not in their dna, but a couple strategic losses could change their draft position by 5 or 6 spots--that's how bunched up the 5-12 draft position is right now.

to their credit, they jettisoned their vets at the deadline, so they're doing what they can.

in other words, i'm not too broken up about late-game decisions or playcalls right now. close losses are just fine.

I don't want our young guys continuing bad habits. A loss is fine, but I don't want to see the same mistakes over and over.

Dirk is 20 points away from 30,000 points. He had 18 yesterday. We play y'all tomorrow, I feel good about that :)
