Too young and too healthy, but like we've seen over and over, the wrong injury with a high mileage superstar can be s game changer.

Who would've thought Tiger Woods run of majors would be suddenly over barring a miracle.

A 9 iron to the head will do that.

Been meaning to write this up, here's my take on the current Mavs roster. Feel free to disagree and correct me, I'm here to learn more.

    PGs:
Running a senior citizens group. Williams and Harris are shells of their former selves and often injured. Barea is still pretty good, but he too is often injured. Yogi has been a nice surprised but ultimately a flash in the pan.

    SGs:
Wes probably isn't worth the contract but I thought that was Cuban doing him a solid after the whole DJ debacle (what are your thoughts on that actually). He's not as good pre injury, a step slower on defense, but he's still a solid player. Has a few really good defensive moments. Seth is developing nicely as a 3&D player though a bit undersized.

    SFs:
Barnes earning that paycheck and proving that he could be a scorer as oppose to just being another wing defender for the Warriors. His defense might be a little overrated but then again now he has to play both sides of the ball more. Anderson and FinneySmith are still projects but could be solid wings.

    PFs:
Dirk, what is there more to say that hasn't already. The big German can still score with the best of them. Still feel a little sad for him that he took a paycut but never sniffed the Finals again. Powell is a very nice young big man, has the size, length and athleticism to be a good player.

    C:
Bogut was a little bit of a head scratcher of an addition. Doesn't give much besides rebounding and a little rim protection but really just being a 5th body out there. He's fallen out of the rotation and they play much better without him.

I really like Carlisle as a coach, I'd say top 3 in the league right now. He coaches the game like chess and can count on him to take a playoff series to 7 games despite lesser talent. As for the team as a whole, they really are in the middle of nowhere, just waiting for Dirk to retire. Theres a couple nice young players but they should really start looking to embrace a rebuild.

Two should have been game winners. That's some pathetic defense.

giveth and taketh away. dirk at center means you get shots and give up shots. and get outrebounded 2-1.

exciting end to that game, though.

as for what i think of the dj thing: the mavs have been a dj short of contention for two years, and the clips would be in blow up mode right now. that was a real landscape shifter. left the mavs in the FA lurch, which set them back substantially. it's also the reason for the extra three million on matthews' salary that everyone (not me) seems so upset about.

the mavs need a guard and a center. bogut is still good, but you can't play him with dirk, just no footspeed on the back line.

if they didn't have carlisle, i think they'd be in dead last right now; that's how much a good coach is worth. then again, i think lots of mavs fans would prefer to be in dead last right now...

Anderson has no real place here anymore, with Barnes and Wes, when we go small. He's you, cheap, athletic, and is adjusting to the NBA 3 point line fairly well. He shot 45% in his Sr year, shooting over 3 a game. I would think we would be easy to move.

I don't know why Mej doesn't get more burn.

mejri could get overexposed in heavy minutes. he's an energy guy, and there's some matchups that you can't use him against.

if someone would take anderson, i'd move him, but he hasn't provided much to be excited about. great athlete, poor feel for the game.

I remember wanting Anderson, our pick was just a couple spots below. Ended up with Nance so no complaints here.

anderson made sense at the time, and i'm not saying his career is over. but he just...doesn't get it. and i don't think it's for lack of trying. actually reminds of randle in this regard.

    Lol, just checking.

So we're only a couple games back from 8th, running 8-2 . It would be cool if we made the playoffs, even if only to get swept and lose a few places in the draft.
