If nothing else, I'm hoping this ends the Jim/Jeanie thing once and for all. That deadline was a bad move on his part and has been yet another negative thing dangling over the team since he said it.

We've all posted about them and their issues at some point, so I won't rehash it.

In my opinion, a situation gets to a point where it doesn't matter whose more at fault, it just needs to end. That's where I'm at with Jim and Jeanie. Jim pretty much became the public face of everything wrong with the team. And although I think his sister shares more of the blame than she gets, perception becomes reality.

Bringing in Magic is another step along the way to getting things back right in the front office. Jim will now go and we can start really moving on from this horrible chapter in franchise history.

I don't know how I feel about it quite frankly.

Ask me at the end of the season.

Hmm.. not sure I like this. I don't trust Magic's opinions on much, the guy could play basketball better than almost anyone ever, but his opinions are obvious ones. Most of all, I don't like how we continue to crawl back to showtime Lakers whenever we are in trouble. How'd that work out with B0ron? It's like Jeannie has zero creativity. Need help, grab a showtime Laker. When are we going to move forward and stop looking to our glory days for help when most of the showtime Lakers are sadly out of touch with today's NBA?

1 step forward, 1 step back.

We've progressed from last year. Nope, that's not enough. Time to shake things up..... again.

I'm not a Jimmy Boy fan, but other than his coach hires, he's done pretty well (except for FA signings). We were all on board with the Nash and Dwight trades. Luke hiring too. So he's not perfect, but his resume is a lot more impressive than Jeannies.

Magic... the son that Doctor Buss always wanted. Apparently, the brother Jeannie always wanted as well.

One thing I will say: Mitch says he often communicates with Magic in an interview I listened to last weekend on ESPN radio.

I don't believe I ever heard or seen any reports of friction between Mitch and Magic.

Magic has often been critical but he has blamed Jim more than anybody else from the Lakers organization for the challenges we have had the past few seasons.

Mitch has the seal of approval from the Logo. Gets no better than that.

Johnson is tagged as an "advisor"... His opinions will not be the be all end all to everything Laker related decision making personnel and executive wise. I don't think brass will just follow Johnson's assessments. In reality, targeting free agents and scouting prospects to complement or augment our core will be up to Walton, Jesse Buss, Ryan West AND Kupchak. I don't expect Johnson to get in the way or impose his ideas. It's all PR with him on board on the "selling" aspect of our young talent with some front office mentoring when needed.

As far as Jim Buss is concerned, didn't he try to recreate a Showtime Redux with his choice of D'Antoni on top of the Howard/Nash signings? The vetoed Paul trade? Get away from the era of Jackson and his Triangle? I'm not sold on Jeanie either.

That is just rampant foolish speculation. Why would Kupchak be fired? Idiotic since we hired an "advisor"? Like a CEO being laid off because a consultant is on board? If anything, Jim Buss will be asked to resign just for the sake of his dignity.

As long as it really is about the BOLD I'm okay, but if this is the start of Magic eventually making decisions on drafting and trading players I'm going to

Nah...I don't think Johnson will be involved in the final personnel decisions. He'd assess the strengths and weaknesses of each player we acquire and work with them. That should be it. I agree with you that it should not go beyond the bounds of that. At least I hope not...

I've read through the first 3 pages of this thread now and I'm feeling a little bit better about this.

It'll help if we knew his role (his real role, not just what's being reported), who stays and who goes, and if he can flip Deng and Moz for Steph Curry.

It'll be longer before we really know for sure. End of the season will likely be to soon to really tell a difference. Especially because most of Magic's finger prints will be on the behind the scenes stuff from what Medina's article was saying.
