yeah, and the going rate seems to be a protected 1st and a second for similar dumps. get used to his corpse gracing the roster sheet.

That's a steal in my opinion. Next year's draft isn't expected to be very strong. A protected 2019 1st, 2 2nds for an expiring contract would be perfect right now.

But I could see us waiting too.

@alam1108 I like Faried too...a 3 way between Denver, us and one of the cap having teams like (Sac, Chi or Atl) would have had Denver and LA's 1sts going to one of the cap teams while we take in Faried in Deng's place....it would have been a solid move for all teams, but it looks like BK exploited that before us.

Look at what BK did. They took Mozzy...flipped it for dead cap in Dwight and lost some 2nd rounders in the process, but then got those 2nd rounders back in the Denver deal for Faried/Arthur and then flipped those 2nd rounders to ATL to take on Lin....in all of that they netted (pun intended) a Denver mid 1st (if protections play out) and some 2nd round pick swaps to dump 2 years on Mozzy's deal. Granted, they had to dead 23m of their cap via the Howard buyout, but next summer, they project to have 70M in cap space and if Crabbe opts out of his player option, they will have close to 89m in cap space.

That is the price of Deng's deal as of now.

However, if we wait till next summer, then Denver moved 34m (Chandler, Faried, Arthur) in expiring contracts and had to fork over 1 mid 1st rounder and 3 2nd rounders along with pick swaps. Deng next summer will be a fraction of that price since he's 19m in expiring.

Also 15 teams (half the league) are projected to have 20m+ in cap space next summer.

We probably wait, but its hard to ignore what BK did this summer with a 2 year deal.

There's no rush to trade him but if you can do it now for a pick or two then you do it.

I would move now too...look at this summer for instance. The lowly teams like ATL, SAC and Chicago who had no intention on going shopping this summer, waited out RFAs and waited out most of the free agent activity before they considered taking on dumps. We're into mid July now and most of the notable free agents are gone. So do we really want to wait on a Deng dump next summer if things really hold to form?

Next summer we're going to want to move on the Klaw, Butler, Klay, etc asap, so we're going to need that cap space. Getting off Deng this summer provides us that luxury, however if we wait till next summer most free agents that we would sign to supplement the roster after we locked in a max guy would have already taken money elsewhere.

    #DumpDeng now if you can.

Well Taj is the one who said he was hanging with Luol and of course we know the Luol/Thibs connection so I was trying to find a way to send Deng to Minny and Sacramento is basically the only team left with the cap space to work with.

So many of these great plans from vash, you and others on how we could or could have dumped Deng. What good are they unless LB gets them to Magic and Rob?

We might as well just swap him for Noah at this point. At least we'd get a center...

It can hurt. :D They played him half a game the first game of the season last year and didn't like what they saw then. Never touched the floor again.
