Well, the other option we have is the wild card, which is probably more attainable since the Jets have a rough last 5 games, and their all star blue liner just got suspended for 4 of them. If we don't win tonight, or make it at all, then this team doesn't deserve to.

Calgary, Minnesota, and Vancouver all lost. Kings are dismantling the Oilers already. Looking good! #BELIEVE

We are now officially in front of the Jets and control our own destiny with Calgary with a one loss cushion (meaning we now can lose one more game as long as it's not to Calgary and still beat them).

I miss the days when we weren't glued to the scoreboard. Lakers and the worst teams in the NBA. Kings and playoff threshold teams. I have nervous diarrhea constantly.

Well, we're tied with the Jets, but own the tiebreaker. And Calgary is still a point ahead of us, but we have a game in hand, which we should take this Saturday. (knock on wood).

But yes, they are back in a they control their own destiny situation. And again, it helps that the Jets have a crap schedule to finish.

We could catch the Canucks still. While unlikely, it is NOT

I swear to God, we need to find two guys that can take penalty shots. It doesn't even matter if they can do ANYTHING else, just plant them on the end of the bench until shootout time comes. Those three penalty shots last night looked like they weren't even trying. it looked like they were warming up the goaltender before the game.

That and this team is horrible at keeping leads.

They'd rather play down and come from behind than to sit on a 1-0 2-0 lead. So weird.

NEED the 2 pts tonight against Edmonton and the Flames matchup on Thursday is the clincher. GKG.

Yeah. Thursday is essentially an elimination game at this point. Hopefully the Kings approach it as such as they play their best in those situations.

But last night wasn't exactly a horrible display of keeping a lead. They scored one goal and it was in the first 2 minutes. Keeping that lead meant pitching a shutout. Not easy.

I wasn't expecting Quick to shutout, but the Kings need to add more goals to support him in those situations. They kind of get into a lull and make stupid mistakes like take dumb penalties and provide that chance for the other team. Right now, we have only two lines producing, we need that third veteran line to really pick it up. Stoll is skating better, and Brown is playing a little more focused, but we need to see the puck in the back of the net from them.

I think the biggest problem is while they are playing better, I don't have the same faith in this group to kick it up another notch in the playoffs. They have looked tired all season. If we draw the Ducks (the most likely scenario right now) I think they will get smoked pretty bad. Ducks are better than last season and the Kings, even now, aren't the same team by any stretch of the imagination.

While that might seem the case, this team is always a playoff awakening from taking ANYONE out.

Last year, the Sharks woke that Kings up because they handed it to us during the season and the first 3 games.

If there's one team that's REALLY on the King's nerves right now? It's the Ducks. When you're coach goes out and says he doesn't want the Kings in the playoffs, it's for good reason. This team would rise to the occasion and really take it to them, hard.

Maybe. They're backs are against the wall and have been. Last night's game was pretty bad I thought. Not connecting on much of anything for the last 30 minutes or so. I honestly think they are just beat. You mentioned earlier that Doughty had lost a step. I don't think he has. I just think he's dead tired. He's played more hockey than anyone on the planet over the last 4 years.

Scenarios in which we get in, we have to win out again Calgary and San Jose.

    1. Calgary loses to us and the Jets.

    or

    2. The Jets lose to the Avs and Flames.

That was just a pathetic display last night. That, along with the 16 or so OT/SO losses this year, crap.

What sucks is if the Jets beat the Avs, they may have zero to play for against the Flames. Flames couldn't catch them, and they won't be able to move into third in the division unless the Wild lose on Thursday.

Rooting HARD for the Avs tomorrow, and a win on Thursday, NO OT'S.

    Dear Basketball Gods,

Please talk to the Hockey Gods about getting our Kings in the playoffs...it's the least you can do since you did that Lakers thing to us

    Sincerely,

a fan that's not ready to be stuck with only baseball yet

With both the Kings and Lakers bowing out early, I may seriously consider cancelling cable and going the Sling TV route for a few months.
