I disagree about the Lakers not making the playoffs and what it would take. Brook Lopez is already basically an All Star or at least borderline. A 20 ppg scorer and legit scoring threat down low as well as floor spacer.

KCP is a legit two way player in this league. Lakers haven't had a player like him in years who can lock down opposing guards on the perimeter, but also score the ball on the other end. That is two legit starters right there.

Also all we've heard about Lonzo is how much better he makes his teammates better. Magic called him transcendent. If that's really true and it certainly looks like Lonzo is capable of that based on what he displayed in Sunmer League.

As for Ingram he's gonna be a different player this season as we saw the second half of last season and in his lone SL appearance looked like a man amongst boys.

Worst case scenario is see a 35 win team, but possibly sneaking into the playoffs as a lower seed. Not saying it's definite, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.

As for LeBron playing in a big market is surely gonna be important for him, but I still fully believe he wants to win. That's why he's frustrated in Cleveland because he's knows they can't beat the Warriors as fully constituted.

i'm serious. are you? three all stars, including the league's best player...or two unproven guys and the chance to overpay the next deng. it's an easy choice.

what do you think gets paul george here? because if he was hellbent on la (like most fans seem to believe), he'd already be here--we've seen players with less leverage force their way to their desired situation. instead, he's playing with last year's mvp on a different team. if they make the conference finals (i'd say they have a 50/50 shot), he's almost a lock to stay there. unless, say, lebron was coming to la, too.

in other words, i don't see a one-star signing happening. it's why rob and magic are going to be going crazy trying to clear space. no prime star wants to try to drag a bunch of twenty year olds to the sixth seed just so they can be on tv more often.

    @abeer
Magic and Rob are scrambling to clear cap space for 2 all stars yes but you're talking now about being willing to let LBJ be GM and putting on knee pads for him if hypothetically he's allowed to also dictate that our brightest and cost controlled for 3 more years after next season, own K. Leonard type "cornerstone" player (as declared by them both) be shipped out so he can dictate a 3rd not cost controlled player of his majesty's choice come too.

    :Nope:

    1) Lakers waive their Bird Rights to every upcoming FA (Brewer, Randle, Lopez, Pope, Bryant)
    2) Lakers decline options/waive non-guaranteed players (Nance, Ennis, Zubac)
    3) Lakers trade Clarkson for future 2nd rounder(s).
    4) Lakers trade Ingram/Deng for, just to use an example, DeMarcus Cousins at the upcoming deadline (high level player that is expiring).
--- Secondary to that: either waive our Bird Rights to Cousins or make him sign an extension worth less than the max.

We go into next summer with:
Lonzo, Kuzma, Hart on the books for a whopping 16.68 million dollars. That leaves us with Cap space of 85.32 million.

We could give full max contracts to LeBron and George and still have 20 million left over. Given George's and Cousins's and Lopez's ages, they could each conceivably take less than the max short term (even as low as the room exception perhaps) in order to get their Bird Rights and then receive a max extension which could field a team that looks like:

    Lonzo
    George/Hart
    LeBron
    Cousins/Kuzma
    Lopez

Is that not the least bit intriguing to anyone? I love Ingram and if we keep him, I'm going to be ecstatic watching him grow, but if we can field a team that competes with the Warriors for the next 5 years and leaves us something (Lonzo) for beyond that, I'm going to have a hard time turning that down.

So that team does nothing for you?

I'm just posing the question since it's sort of what @abeer3 is getting at.

out of all of the young talent we suffered for we end up with Hart, Kuzma, and Ball?

    it hurts

Not sure I want to go that far for a temporary fix. It's a fascinating lineup, but only two guys are proven vet winners in George and Lebron. Lebron's miles are crazy high and needs to not be playing more than 30-34 min a night. George has needed help, but not afraid of the big moments.

I like Brook Lopez, but he's won nothing, and was the anchor for the laughingstock of the league. How good is he really? Does anyone really know? DMC hasn't shown he can win anything either. Maybe with an All Star cast around him he's ok, but he seems like the type to get cranky if he doesn't get his touches.

Overall, I think it's fascinating that it's possible, but might not be the first option I'd go to in order to rebuild a winner.

I don't like Cousins at all, but we're looking at 3/5 of Team USA out there.

    So far no takers?

    10 PPG Lonzo
    20 PPG George/Hart
    22 PPG LeBron
    20 PPG Cousins/Kuzma
    18 PPG Lopez

That's 90 PPG out of your starting lineup. I don't think they have the speed to get up and down that fast, and that means someone is giving up major numbers to make it work. I don't think it's the best combo. I think you'd be better off with a Pope kind of guy mixed in who wants to shut down their best guy also. No way that lineup can take full advantage of Ball on the run. 3 ball is respectable, but the pace of the game I can't see working out.

In your opinion, who gives up the numbers to make it work?
