    If you had told me before the draft that Anderson, Wright and Hollis-Jefferson would all be gone by the 27th pick so we went with Anthony Brown at 27 for our 3+D SF, and then picked up Nance Jr. at 34 for a wing defender I would have been happy. It just threw me off when we went Nance at 27 because I never saw his name in any first round mock. But hey, we got two solid potential role players and why does it matter which order they were picked. Bottomline, our scouts have earned my confidence and Mitch is a Boss.

    Oh totally. I was just saying what one of the twitterheads was saying. The pick threw me for a loop completely. No harm done though since Anthony Brown was the player a lot of us wanted in that #27 like you said without other wings like RHJ and Anderson on the board. Nance looks alright to me. Who doesn't like hustle and defense?

    Yeah, I wasn't disagreeing with you, but agreeing by describing how the pick initially threw me off too. I was in a meeting at that point, and briefly checked my phone for an update on the 27th pick and a look like this was on my face:

    Good point at the end but it scares me if he starts looking great in summer league someone might take the money gamble. Once he's not visible so much like in camp to outsiders then not so much. We sooo bad now need not just a tall athletic defender to handle the "LOADS" Big Men but someone with the build for it too. He looks like he could muscle up some and would be good on his frame? A D. Jordan for instance. Although Black has decent quickness and size and very good mass and strength plus vertical and good span to defend. This is a golden opportunity for Boom Boom to step and compete for major minutes at the 5.

    I think we end up getting another big in FA and keep Black on the bench, but you're right. There's an opportunity for him to really shine and maybe convince the Lakers to go some other way. At the very least he's a great fall back option for us. He did well as a starter here and in Houston.

    I missed the initial selection and when I checked the board and read a name I've never heard of and seeing him listed at PF I had a mini heart attack. But upon reading more about him I actually do like him.

    Actually Jay Williams liked Nance and claimed he had a nice inside and out game. His dad played in the NBA as well which helps.

    I know they liked the pick, they just thought it was really early for him and they're right. Nance probably was available later but we had the pick at #27 so we took him. No harm no foul just weird timing.

    What if they heard rumblings that he'd be taken a few picks later. At that point in the draft(IMO not a true reach), it's how you envision your team and scheme you want to run.

    still wanted joe young and hernangomez.

    but the lakers have been pretty good in the draft, imo, for a long time. so I'm guessing they know something.

    they better know something about nance that no one else did.

    It was a bit of a reach even so. He'd have been there at #34 most likely, but they got the guy they wanted. I'm not complaining. He looks like a decent pick.

    Seems like he wants to be a defensive minded stretch four. He is also very athletic and really working on that J. Lastly his attitude fits right I line with the new Lakers motto, work hard, play d, have moxy. I'm kinda excited to see how he pans out.

    Maybe the common ground of both their dads having been good players in the NBA will help ease the awkwardness of the first conversation and getting it all aired out. I hope and am thinking Kobe is not going to be petty about this to the detriment of the team. He may be a little chippier in practices and test him harder to see if he going to be worth spending any time on him though helping him. To see if it's worth his time. From the reports since last night it sounds like he should like him. Great in his interviews.

    i'm still iffy about this pick although I don't know who else we could've taken besides him. I wonder if he can be a Serge Ibaka-type who can defend and shoot the 3 but with less blocks.

    Shane Battier played pf in college and ended up being a 3 and D wizard at sf. Not saying Nance is Battier, but all this talk about him being a pf I think is premature. He's super athletic and he isn't that tall. Listed at 6'8" which means in reality he's likely 6'6", I could see him splitting time behind Kobe at the 3 and Randle at the 4.

    According to DraftExpress he's 6'7.5" without his shoes. Measured at the combine...

    He's got a 37.5" vert on the move. Impressive for a guy his size.
