It's great to see him working on his off-hand already. Get well soon, Nick!

Wasn't it a wrist (?) injury that made Kobe do the same (or rather expedite the process) way back when?

wasn't this his rookie year or was it Kobe's 2nd year in the league?

Phil's first season. Kobe missed the first 15 games. Allowed the team to gel without him. He worked on his left hand, and I assume he figured out how best to help the team when, in fact, he returned. He studied where best to attack the Defense and where his shots would come from while he was away.

Nick has got to do the same.

That's right.... it was Phil's first year. amazing how time flies. I know Kobe will really be helping Nick improve on the mental side of the game while recovering from thumb surgery.

You can feel free to start that thread if you'd like! At LB we're trying to be more lenient about new threads and what constitutes a "worthy thread topic".

The second unit did pretty well in Swaggy P's absence, sharing the load and each guy showcasing his or her abilities. I can't wait to see that group fire on all cylinders and give the league some trouble.

I was very impressed with Ellington slipping into that 3 spot and Clarkson at the 2 last night for the bench unit. There's still a lot of fire power there even though we were missing X and Young. Ellington can light it up! Clarkson is great at the rim. I like our bench a lot.

Yeah, it did work out pretty nicely at least for last night. I also like and I noticed this a little during Summer League play but didnt know if it would carry over but Clarkson somewhat has the ability to create his own shot. I know he missed on quite a few floaters last night but he'll get those to fall more times than night. I have confidence in these guys

A bit of the injury bug carrying over from last season is a concern but he's young and these things happen from time to time. On the bright side, this gives some the rest of the second unit the chance to get some shots off while 'Swaggy P" heals up (hopefully sooner rather than later).

Just after first preseason game thoughts.

I do like Clarkson, I really do, but he's still a rook. And needs to develop some more.

Ellington looked in control, has a sweet stroke, basically we found another Meeks. He should get the minutes at backup SG and have Young play at SF.

I thought Clarkson looked very good for a rookie. He got the shots he wanted a handful just didn't fall. He was also asked to bail the team out a couple of times and that hurt his FG%. Overall, he looked great. He's an NBA player and we got him in the 2nd round. Great job by Mitch and Jim.

I said it in another thread, and we both know this, Clarkson is a SG. I agree he is definitely an NBA level player.

However, I don't think he currently has the skillset yet to be a ball dependent SG yet. As we all know, he's played PG for a majority of his college career. For now, he's better off letting Lin run the offense, and take the shots within the given set. He's good at attacking the basket, but as I noticed, he seems to settle for a forced shot when he can't go all the way, he needs to have options as a SG. Pull it back out if it doesn't work, or, as I've seen him do a few times, pullup for a jumper. He'll get there.

Man that's what I'm thinking too. How about a big "eff you" back at other coaches when they try to create matchup problems for us? It's like a normal point guard trying to handle Marcus Smart on the block. He's quick enough and can handle the ball well enough that certainly there will be strategic times this can be done. Plus could give more burn to our other combo bigs.
