    Just for abeer:

Bron opts in (35.6) and gets traded for a maxed out Capela (25.4) and Nene (3.6) and future draft compensation. Deal barely gets enough outgoing Rox salary for Bron.

Why? Cavs at least get something for Bron (Capela is a marquee summer RFA) and have that poor soul locked into a contract so that he can never leave the Land again (insert sinister laugh here). Capela gets paid, so hes happy (temporarily). Cavs are capped out so losing Lebron for nothing is worse than adding salary/taxes, cause fans ain't going to be to receptive with the former. The Cavs get their young new "star" and ship Bron out of the conference (which is why Gilbert went insane clown posse the first time Bron chose innerconference Miami).

PJ Tucker (8) and Gordon (13.5) and future draft compensation to cLips for opted in DJ (24.1).

Why? Cause DJ's been a cLip his entire career and doesn't want to lose his bird rights. Yet he can threaten to walk (not to Htown) but to any other cap having team. cLips get assets in return instead of having nothing since theyre capped out and can't do anything with the cap that DJ vacates. Plus the Cp3 deal gives this precedence and you know DJ had been talking with Cp3 and Bron wanted DJ to the Cavs at the deadline last season.

You have the rights to Cp3 and Ariza to throw money at...

    Cp3
    Harden
    Ariza
    Bron
    DJ

    ...All without dumping Anderson.

I feel dirty...hand me the towel you use to rub down your crystal ball with ...btw, you owe me a beer.

Also... This is the best example I can give you as to why passing on Jules's 12m extension at the start of the season was the best thing to do. You can create opportunities that you wouldn't have had access to. It's crazy just how similar Jules/Deng is to Capela/Anderson.

had me until the end--houston's summer would be easier right now if capela was locked into to below-market value. it would open options beyond those you mention. right now, his FA status makes things more difficult--what if cleveland doesn't think he's a max-worthy guy? were he under contract, you move him for a bigger-salaried, shorter-term deal and maybe a pick, then flip those for the piece you really want.

the key is having talented players under reasonable contracts.

^^^His FA status actually adds flexibility for Houston via a S&T.

Under the proposed scenario I painted, lets say Capela is at 12M right now (below market value). So if the target is Bron and you're using Capela to move for him, Houston clearly doesn't have enough salary. They could do Gordon (13.5) + Capela (12) + Nene (3.6) to get Bron. But then you have PJ Tucker there instead of an opportunity to trade for DJ (a rumored Bron team up target).

You brought up flipping a below market Capela for a bigger salaried, short term deal to then flip for Bron. First you have to match salaries and if Capela is at 12M, you're going to have to add much more salary to get a bigger salaried deal to get into the ballpark of flipping for Bron. An opted in Bron is 35.6M, so you would have to get to a minimum aggregated salary of 28.4M (125% + 100K) to make a legal trade. You would have to trade Capela + Gordon to bring in that type of big-salaried short term contract. Here's a current list of players that meet that criteria:

    Lowry: 2years 64M left
    Millsap: 2yrs 60M left
    Horford: 2yrs 60M left
    Melo: 1year 28M left

Out of those names, who exactly is a young dude that Gilbert can sell to the Cavs fans? Would any of those guys be worth taking on a hefty luxury tax to replace Bron with. Not to mention when you add another team, its yet another cap hoop to jump thru and we've all seen just how tough trades are to complete.

Either way, I guess we're just going to have to agree to disagree here. I concede that having talented players under reasonable contracts is something that's easier to trade. But then, wouldn't the team that has those contracts just hold onto them instead? Why trade them? And if its for a player like Bron, then you would have to not only lose that contract but blow up your core to get enough outgoing salary to go get a star like Bron.

Anyways, we got a juicy Love rumor....if the Cavs can bring in Dame, does that keep Bron in Cleveland?

So the Blazers take a crappy contract in an always injured player in Love for a superstar like Lillard? Ok... This person throws out some really bad trade ideas.

I'm thinking its gotta be Love/#8.

Another angle to look at is that Portland has the second largest TPE in the league at 17M with Toronto having the largest at about 20M.

I think so little of Love that feels like an even worse deal for Portland.

Seriously no way you give up hardly much at all for love. Dude has been injury prone and has been having some pretty big mental issues going on.

I honestly think he should just retire now and secure a decent lil legacy.

If Lillard is available for Love, we need to get in on that.

But I doubt he is. Unless they are in love with someone at #8. Even then, is the player at 8 going to be better than Lonzo + a couple more picks?

Like many things during Free Agency I expect the pendulum to swing the other direction before its all said and done where LA isn't likely to sign him.

It's just how things are with the media and speculation...

Followed by Morey rapidly matching that offer sheet haha

(Oh and in that case, Morey wouldn't be able to S&t Capela to the Cavs, cause you can't match an offer sheet and then trade that player to the team that handed said player the agreed upon offer sheet).

    For sure...

I think they have to look at GHill, who makes 19M this coming season, but only 1M is guaranteed in 19/20. They can get off that contract as essentially an expiring this year or even stretch it (4M per over 5 year cap hit). Doing just that woukd safely take them below the apron (130M), seeing how with an opted in Bron, they world have about 140M in total team salary.

FA can't come soon enough lol. Atleast draft should be fun and we'll see if any Deng action occurs.
