My guess is the Cavs already know LeBron is gone and did not want to lose that lottery pick. IT is a bonus if he ever recovers.

This is what I saw as well. Thomas is at worst an expiring and at best a really solid veteran player.

The Cavs leave with the pick they wanted (needed), a solid wing defender, and a low-risk-high-reward player. I think it's a good trade for them.

eh...not sure the bkn pick will be as good as people think. it's why boston is suddenly willing to part with it after clutching it so tightly for the past couple of years. the east is bad enough that it's no longer guaranteed to be top 5.

plus, i wouldn't do anything that makes it easier for lebron to walk, pr-wise. trading a top-20 nba player (personally, i think irving is better than harden, for example) for a guy with a bad wheel makes lebron leaving totally forgivable, imo. in fact, it would make a lebron trade demand sensible.

i just feel like they could have gotten a similar deal elsewhere. instead of the pick, maybe they get a good player on a rookie contract. if the bucks, for example, would have thrown in a first on top of brogdon and middleton (underrated), i think that's just as good.

all of this assumes thomas is going to a) miss a good chunk of playing time, b) be a pretty serious re-injury risk and/or not as effective as he was previously, and c) be a contract headache.

I mean this signals pretty significantly that they have zero confidence in LeBron returning, doesn't it? I don't think that's something they can even pretend to plan for at this point. I think they're going to give this upcoming season a howdy-do effort and then go full tank mode as soon as LeBron leaves. Given LeBron's consistent effort not to stop the rumors, the Cavs have to prepare like he's just gone.

I'm with you in that trading with Boston would have been untenable. I'm not doing it. I'm sending Kyrie to Siberia for their best offer, but the Cavs suck and they lucked into any success they've had the last few years.

If they really think LBJ is staying they might try to move the Nets pick they received in a trade to make the team better immediately. I don't think they do this because its their safety net if LBJ leaves. All in all I can't see them trading this pick and if they don't it certainly helps the notion of Lebron leaving.

to me it doesn't signal anything, the trade gave Clev both routes, compete now and later. I mean its not like they had a choice trading Irving, he demanded it. This was by far the best pkg of win now and protect themselves from james leaving as well and at the same time if James does leave, shows how 2 face he is as well, Clev does everything to appease James.

They are lucky as a prince Draymond was suspended. Should a small market team send high level players to Siberia? Is it a good idea for the long term?

ainge is a snake. i get that thomas is taking the high road, but i think boston knew his injury was serious and simply had no intent of retaining him long-term, so they let him play on it instead of get surgery in december. then, they shipped him out whilst pretending that they thought his injury was something that would heal with rest.

once cleveland's doctors actually saw what they were dealing with, they told their rookie gm to pull out. but he was too scared. he should have.

From what I read, it will be 2019, not the 2018 draft. So the pick is safe for Cleveland for now. But Dlo is going to average 40 a game and the Nets will win 50 games.

Thomas dubbed himself The Little Ticket. More like The Little Ticket Out Of Town. Seriously...I want him to heal up, then help lead Cleveland past his former team.

I'd actually kind of like to see him not play, LeBron have to see what it's like to "waste" a year of your prime with inferior like Kobe had to, get beat by Kyrie and the C Bags, and then the C Bags get destroyed in the Finals by the Warriors.

If them people make it to the finals, I want it to be us that meets them. Id rather not see them get #18.

So imagine they get to the finals and Steph lands on someone foot and gets knocked out the finals, or if Draymond renews his taste for nuts and they hoist number 18. That's my nightmare.
