That team was scaring good. And Paul Allen would have continued to stock pile it. If they win the title in 2000, I have no doubt they are a force the rest of the way. I am sure at some point Shaq and Kobe figure it out but the Lakers would have had to run into a 3rd buzz saw in that era between the Kings and Spurs.

This is the beginning of the end of the Spurs. Seems like they're operating on pride rather than making the next best move, it reminds me of when we let Pau & Dwight walk for nothing.

yeah, i think their run is finished. duncan retiring was the first big blow. pop's impending exit is already affecting things, imo. and the kawhi situation just sucked the sheen off the organization in one fell swoop. it will be a long climb back up unless they luck out like they did with duncan in 97.

It actually makes me kind of sad. Yes, they were our rivals, but I always respected them. They were professional, workman like, and when they lost they gave credit where credit was due. When they won they were gentlemen.

Why didn’t the Spurs just say give us BI, Kuz, your 2018 picks, 2019 1st, and Deng (only because o think Pop is the only coach that can get him to come alive). I would be more satisfied with that if I were a Spurs fan than I would be dissatisfied as a Lakers fan. That organization may be lacking leadership for the reasons many have stated.

This. Let's see another offer before the Lakers bid against themselves. Why are we giving up the farm if their only other offer is Jaylen Brown and a first in a bad draft?

I’m not either. I put that package there based on what has been thrown around by the pundits. ESPN guys, Larry Coon and others have been throwing out the idea that it will take 2 of our young guns plus pieces to get Kawhi. Personally I would be fine with offering only one with pieces, or offer nothing and just roll out the red carpet next year if he walks here on his own as a free man. I do not want to get rid of Kuz or BI. Although if it is Kawhi, PG and LeBron, where does BI play? I wouldn’t mind LeBron at Center now that I think about it.

The most I'm giving up talent wise is Ingram or Kuzma. Now way I'm giving up both.

Love both these Kids & would generally agree with you...EXCEPT.
If we can legitimately land Kawhi, PG & Lebron, the player I would most want to pair with them is Lonzo.
It would suck to lose both Kuz & BI, but if you're replacing them with PG & Kawhi & replacing Randle with LeBron, are you really gonna complain..?

that only happens if Deng is moved, so how do you suggest moving Deng for no $ back? Even if the odds were -1,000,000 to 1 (meaning you bet $1mill to win $1 dollar) that SAS wouldn't take Deng with that pkg, I'd still bet it.

Well for one, I don't even want Lebron, so there's that, but keeping Lonzo+Ingram or Lonzo+Kuzma would extend our window for contention to 10+ years. I know I'm being greedy but I want a dynasty which is only sustainable by keeping most of our youth.

Yeah, no. LeBron can piss off and stay in Cleveland or go to Philly if he wants us to go all in and trade Ingram, Kuzma and Hart for mystery injury Kawhi. LeBron is not a good GM.

That article seemed like a whole lot of nothing to be honest. Just continuous speculation.

I don't buy it at all and if you read the story, it seems like circumstantial evidence at best.

Woj says there's a "race to get Kawhi", but then goes on to say there's "no substantial discussions between teams and the Spurs". So... who is racing? The Lakers against... the Lakers? There's no f***ing race at all.

I don't believe for a second that Kawhi's acquisition is dependent on James deciding on LA. I do believe that James expects the Lakers to get Kawhi at some point. I believe wholeheartedly that James and George believe the Lakers have a plan to get Kawhi either this summer or next or at the February deadline. It'll likely require losing some youngsters, but it'll be worth it as long as Kawhi is healthy.

I don't believe for a second that there's a race when in the SAME piece they say there's nobody making serious offers and no talks have gone anywhere. Sounds to me like the Spurs FO is trying desperately to make it seem like they have any leverage at all in this situation.
