If Thibdeau has the authority to choose Butler over KAT, I hope the Lakers jump on that. I would trade most of the young kids for KAT... even if the smoke there is he doesn’t play defense. Dude is a generational talent.
It’s hard to find guys close to 7 feet with that skill set, but I think everybody would like to see a little more fire burning from within We are all a bit spoiled having a superstar great talent that was also running around ripping jugular veins out of his opponents. Seriously, will anybody else ever measure up? I haven’t watched enough of him to comment with a very strong opinion, but he seems like the type of guy that will average 20 and 10 for 10 to 15 years. Sounds like he’s the type of guy that could be either the second or third best player on a contender, but if he’s the third best, those guys are hard to justify paying Max money to. Because of his size and scale said, he will probably nearly always be a max level paid player.
What if the whole Butler/Thibs meeting, it was Thibs trying to sell Butler on staying. The crazy thing is Thibs might be the one guy in the league that would choose Butler and ship KAT off to keep Butler. Thibs has this fetish of living in the Bulls past glory years. I can completely imagine Thibs in his hoarse voice saying this to Jimmy at the meeting.... Thibs: I want you with me on the Timberbulls long term. I know you have your issues with KAT. But what if we trade KAT, would you at least verbally agree (wink wink) that you would resign with us in the offseason? Would you guys do the deal if Minnesota is willing to accept Kuz/Hart/Lonzo for KAT? Keep in mind if you accept it, you get to keep Ingram and still have cap space next summer for another max player.....
his apparent stagnation and rocky relationship with the team worry me. i would have totally agreed this time last year, though, so maybe i'm overreacting.
Josh having a real chance to become a top 12-15 player in the league is not realistic at all. We'll be "lucky" if BI ever becomes this good
So Minny seems to have chosen to side with KAT. We got some nice expiring pieces, but I would like to keep our young guys to trade for the possibility of AD. FYI: Butler makes 20.4m this year and needs a minimum of 16.24m in outgoing salary to trade for dude. I'm thinking he goes back East with NY and/or Boston on that list.
if i'm the lakers i just sit back and wait the most i'd trade for butler is zo/hart but i'd much rather just wait for kawhi or klay. also, no way in hell i'd trade kuzma/hart/zo for KAT. KAT is very good but he's not worth that price
If I'm the Lakers...I find a way to get Butler without having to give up Kuz, Ingram or Zo. Ultimately, I'm OK with giving up Hart... Here's an even crazier idea...give up Lonzo for Butler. Send his Big Baller b**** a** out to Minnesota and we never have to deal with Lavar ever again or glass knees. I think Minny would jump on Lonzo too as he would fit the timeline of Wiggins/KAT and he's kinda what they need. If we get Butler for Zo...imagine this lineup: LeBron, Hart, Butler, Ingram and Kuz...that team matches up with Golden State nicely
Just does KAT now side with MIN. This is going to be good to see the fall of the Twolves. KAT can't be happy with losing talent. If we're not trading our young players for PG we certainly aren't doing it for Butler.
Only way a Butler trade would really work is if Minnesota hasn’t traded him by December, and then you offer them a package of Rondo, Lance, Beasley, and a pick or two (once they’re eligible to be traded). Trading for him now would require a package of multiple young pieces to make salaries work, and I wouldn’t even trade one of them for him right now. And then even if we somehow got Minny to bite on an offer of our one-year veterans, I wouldn’t give Butler an extension. I’d still want the flexibility of going after Kawhi or KD. That would probably leave a bad taste in Butler’s mouth though.
If we're not trading our young players for PG or Kawhi we certainly aren't doing it for Butler. Pete's Take:
There's no path to Butler right now that doesn't START with Ball/Ingram. And the fact he's willing to sign an extension means the Lakers getting him in the summer is unlikely as well. Butler is starting a freefall slide down the FA list.
If he stays West, I hope its the cLips cause that means Kawhi is most likely headed to us and Kyrie might join Butler as a cLipper. Bron vs Ky in LA...nice story line. Also Butler's camp wants a trade before training camp, so LA would have to give up a massive amount of their young core to get this done...which is unlikely. Which means the Lakers are obviously out and I ain't really made at it.
you had your chance, Jimmy...take your pouty a** back East or force a trade to the C Bags so you can ruin their chemistry and give up that core
