How many/which kids do you trade to get Jimmy now as opposed to waiting? Or do you just wait and hope for the best? Jimmy is very underrated and would be an excellent B to LeBron's A.
I'm still definitely firmly in the boat like I was with Kawhi that you do not trade young, player assets for someone who has the chance of coming to our team via FA. I think the Front Office feels the same way. Now if things for the first 2-3 months start off rocky maybe they change their mind but I don't. Now before I was kind of not that excited about the prospect of Butler coming here. This was because I feel like he doesn't do anything real great but a ton of things real well. But this quote from Butler last year has made me kind of change my opinion on him. Very Kobe like quote: And some players didn't like the culture in MIN: Now Butler's advanced numbers against the NBA and other wings stack up real well: I just hope Thibs doesn't run him into the ground the same way he did to Deng, but it may be too late with his days in CHI and now MIN.
Imo, you only trade our kids for AD (if he becomes available and I'm looking real close at if he chooses Paul/Klutch as his next representation). You bring in Kawhi/Butler as free agents next summer. 3 max guys FTW! #2019lan
The way I see it - if you commit 40M to one player and then add one more at the max, the only reasonable way to build the team further is by gathering cheap talent. The best way to do that is by having young prospects who by design cost less than older, often times exactly as productive players. I would not trade either of Ingram, Ball of Kuzma for any player right now, we need them to be able to build a competitive team. Bron is just too expensive for us to dream about 2 more max players.
Yeah, I can’t see getting 3 max players surrounded by scrubs and minimum level contract ring chasers. One injury to a high mileage guy like Bron, and the dream is over.
Kawhi or Butler into cap space next summer as a max free agent @32.7m and AD would be making 27.1m next year, so only 21.6m in outgoing salary needs to happen for a trade to be consummated. Zo + BI = 16m in salary next year. Moe, Hart and Bonga or Svi can make up the difference in salary. Kuz can survive the storm... Bron/Kawhi/AD/Kuz/Svi...That would be my end game no doubt....if, everything falls our way. So yeah, don't be s***ting on the 3max outcome just yet. And yes I've been...
My Lakers fandom is thrilled with prospect of 2 current stars / superstars surrounded by a deep roster (exhibit A this year) including some quantity of homegrown future stars / superstars. Not this kind of balance .... .... surrounded by a revolving door every year of as you rightly describe ..... minimum level contract ring chasers. Eff that.
I do want Butler. But not sure if I'd pull the trigger just yet? I'd like to see what we've got. You never know though - if that meeting goes south he could become available.
We could end up with a few surprises this year. I’m in no hurry to unload our prime, young, cost controlled talent.
I was adamantly opposed to pawning off the kiddie farm for PG and a questionably healthy Kawhi, so I sure as heck ain’t willing to do the same for a nearly 30 year old Butler.
That beautiful young core that was once so promising not looking so hot these days. Several of their young stars reportedly disappointing the organization with their defensive efforts and the dissension created because of it. Breaks my heart. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/report-karl-anthony-towns-won-160034749.html
Its really a shame to see how KAT and Wiggins have developed. They were touted for their defensive tools and potential and were suppose to improve under a defensive coach in Thibs, but haven't. They are both varied and talented offensively but they leave a lot to be desired defensively.
So maybe we got the last laugh on that draft with going 2nd and not getting KAT. DLO trade >> pick >> Kuzma. He may ultimately wind up to be a more valuable player. If he's got more Kobe in him than whatever Towns has inside of him.
I'd love to have Butler on this team. But, I'm comfortable with having him as option #4 on my FA wish list next year. #1 = KD #2 = Kawhi #3 = Klay #4 = Butler No way I trade any of BI, Zo, Kuz or Josh for him. I think Josh has a legit shot of being just as good as Butler in the next couple of seasons, and he's our 4th best in the young core.
