That one possession the other night where he passed up a wide open layup only to kick the ball out and that player had a clear lane to the rim but Zu held the defender's jersey and got called for the offensive foul which took the points away from us. I thought that entire sequence perfectly summed up Zu's pre-season. Frustrating...
He needs playing time to improve, it seems, almost more than anyone else on our squad. But much as I hate to lose the reason to use this gif.... .... I have other concerns. I get he dropped (30) pounds to be quicker and able to run the floor better. But how, that being the case, has it seemingly not improved his vertical leap stuffing the ball when right at the basket one little iota? The guy is the "shortest playing" 7 footer ever almost (?) on the Lakers. Scare says hello as well. And how, whether he dropped the lbs or not, are his freaking arms three years in now seemingly no bigger or more defined? You see them and you see how he just doesn't seem strong in there and you start to lose hope in this guy. I still feel with all that if he gets consistent minutes he, like Moe, should be able to be effective against other teams bench players. Still rooting for him but coming to grips with he is not the player I thought he could easily become from when he first got here.
Very nice game for Zu. He was impactful on both ends of the floor. Why can't he do it more often is a mystery.
A game like this aside from a few weak man to man moments are what made so many of us feel he just needed playing time and getting into a groove. Played like a man down low with the physicality banging and hustling best as he's capable. Probably too little too late now to have any future with this club. The better he plays now the better he likely will be looked at as trade bait. But for this win in Portland .....
I think he was a huge difference tonight. I never expect it from him, so it was a pure bonus to see him have this game. Like you said, the 9 & 8 on an efficient 4-5 shooting, and his big body didn’t allow us to get dominated in the paint by their bench.
So we do learn from our mistakes... Like playing Kuz the last time against Nurkic.. Props.. Nurkic is probably exactly the type of center Zu excells against.
I like the idea of having (3) 7 footers to go against Golden State in the Western Conference finals though
very good game. thoroughly surprised and shocked by his play...but to be fair...we need to get him minutes like this with the right players Maybe Zu will actually play well now that he has to bang with McGee AND Chandler during practice...will force him to elevate his play
Zu will be a good back up center. Just needs minutes whether playing bad or not to figure it out. If you looked at his total NBA minutes I doubt it adds up to alot.
Looked urgent for the first time in a long time. Good game. If he's going to earn minutes, it'll be with games like this. I'm not optimistic about that happening, but it would he great to see.
Had a better showing tonight but I still think he needs work in the G league. Chandler should be playing for this team.
