In a seismic trade Monday, the Los Angeles Clippers abruptly ended their association with the team’s seminal franchise player, forward Blake Griffin, sending the five-time All-Star to the Detroit Pistons in a package for guard Avery Bradley, forward Tobias Harris, center Boban Marjanovic and a future first-round pick.

The Pistons will also get center Willie Reed and forward Brice Johnson in the deal.

I forgot that we don't typically make new posts for trades. Oops.

We've been discussing it on the free agency/trades rumor thread in Lakers Discussion.

It's actually good for the Clippers because - while Griffin is an elite player - they were not going anywhere with him trying to carry the team. Why not explore some alternatives? Sucks for Griffin though, because Detroit is probably not on his list of desirable cities. Oh well.

I don't think he had a no trade clause.

And don't sweat making new thread. This is a crazy topic and worth discussing.

I think unless Blake requested a trade, this is an awful look for the Clippers, which I love (and even if he did request it it’s still a bad look that he wanted out). You just signed this guy to a 5 year deal, told him he was your franchise guy, your future, and you trade him halfway into the season. You expect big name free agents like LeBron to look at that and go “wow, that is a loyal franchise, that is a place I want to play”? I don’t give a crap if they have Jerry West as a consultant, nobody is going there willingly, they are a mess, always have been, nothing’s changed. They had Chris Paul, Griffin, and Jordan, role players like Reddick and Crawford and couldn’t get out of the 2nd round once.

Doc's gone. And Det is possibly looking at an albatross if BG can't stay healthy.

it does look terrible to FAs, and i think they simply don't care. they didn't want to be paying griffin 40 million per after his prime and saw a chance to grab an asset and get out from under the obligation.

i also agree that doc was the undoing of what they had going there, and i think this is more evidence that he's being pushed out. they already relieved him of the actual gm duties; i think the next domino is allowing him to gracefully step down on his own this summer whilst claiming that he didn't want to be part of the rebuild (when the truth is he's the reason for the rebuild).

i also think that this may be the beginning of pushing them to seattle, which i think would be great for the league (and for the lakers!).

Ah, the Clippers, still as top class an organization as ever. I can’t believe someone paid 2 billion dollars for the tenants. I think the only player that would be kept in the loop during trade talks there is Austin Rivers, for obvious reasons.

what's funny is that i was making fun of this poster in another thread, using my faulty memory of the actual figures and then trying to hyperbolize: i came up with ghandi and einstein, thinking they hadn't been included the original.

and how has this not been memed to death? i want a ridiculous blake griffin promotional collage maker.com, yesterday!

you should be able to choose from a menu of historical figures and then place whichever low level FA or trade acquisition is most recent.

Clippers will never deserve anything special, and nor will they serve as inspiration for anything cool.

This request is denied on the grounds that this site and all Laker fans world wide have standards.
