Whiteside makes Boogie seem like Grant Hill. No way I trade for him.

With this team, with guards like Hart and Zo that board better than many bigs, Jules (if he resigns), Kuz and everyone on this team pretty much boarding as they do, Lopez's deficiency in that area is a lot less of a problem for us. It lets him draw their big outside to guard him which I believe helps us be one of the top paint scoring teams and then on the other side he puts his focus on guarding the rim. He just isn't a great boarder but when you got everyone on your team killing to get the boards it isn't that much of a negative. He also does help box out for others to get boards too but that doesn't go on the stats.

We may be about the only team or one of the few teams that doesn't care as much about Lopez's boarding. I wonder how this season's 4 rebounds in 23.4 minutes effects his value. Even his per 36 is 6 boards. I got to think if I am a GM considering free agents that I keep coming back to that statistic when I think of Lopez. In a league getting smaller do I want a 7 footer who doesn't board? I wonder if we could get him for a room exception if we sign two star FAs.

How many FA’s have we signed and thankfully whiffed on once you see how they’ve performed? The list is pretty long.

Yes, we had Mozdeng, but it could easily have been as bad.

Ok, well maybe no one is as bad as Mozdeng on a bang for buck basis, but we still could have made many other bad choices.

I'm staying clear of Cousins injury and Whiteside. I'm not that desperate.

    Sign Paul George
    Resign Julius Randle
    MLE to Brook Lopez
Wait till close to trade deadline when Spurs become desperate to trade Kawhi or else they lose him for nothing. Kawhi demands trade to the Lakers (please God).
Trade Luol Deng, 1st round pick, 2nd round pick, Zubac for Kawhi. If Spurs don't budge wait till next year and sign him.

Potential team if we play our cards right:

    Zo/Caruso
    Kawhi/Hart
    BI/Kuz
    PG/Bryant
    Randle/Brook

Oh man..... Wow .. pipe dream I know, but not impossible.

Honestly, I know we got in a froth over adding Kawhi to this team, but at the end of the day, the Spurs are the only team that can offer him a supermax which is significantly more money than he can get from us. Unless he has a Lebron James-esque shoe deal lined up that can only happen if he is a Laker, I just can't see him leaving San Antonio.

    Deng for Whiteside is reality.
    Deng for Kawhi...not so much.

I'm not the biggest fan of Hassan either, but I do think bringing him to different pastures could make him an elite defender again. If anything he's an option and that's what we need in case the 2018plan fails.

Whiteside is a cancer...PG is a tier 2 souperstar...LaBron is a walking mummy of pure evil and inevitable injury.

We are beggars at the moment...so we can't really be picky with our superteam. I want Kawhi and AD...but if we get PG/Bron/Whiteside (via Deng), I'm stoked.

I'm just focused on PG and LeBron right now. That's it.

We can start motion on Plans B-Z after that, but right now I've got my heart set on those two. These Playoffs are going perfectly for us thus far. LeBron is doing too much on a bad team. Paul George is watching the implosion of Westbrook up close. This is shaping up to be a massive summer for us.

:This: It would really be a perfect scenario for us and I think for PG and Lebron as well. Teamed together with our young cast we would be instant contenders with a great offense and strong defensive potential.

It would allow Lebron to play the mentor role to guys like Lonzo who holds him as his favorite player and would put him right in the heart of Hollywood for his next ventures outside of basketball.

Paul George could finally take up that star role on a real contending team and would be THE guy in his prime as Lebron dials it back going forward to the end of his career. He'd have an incredible team going forward as well with great versatility, young legs and a lot of hunger.

Everything else is plan B right now.

i actually don't think it will go that badly (and i'm the resident pessimist). worst case, i think we're back to the jeremy lin/ed davis phase. i'm really hoping for more creative backup plans, though.

I'm a pessimist as well. I think anyone who has witnessed the last few offseasons for this team should tread lightly on their optimism this summer unless they want to set themselves up for disappointment. Yeah the team has a whole new front office led by two charming individuals who command the respect of the room and flashy young players to dangle to veteran stars as a core that can lead them to titles - plural - BUT landing stars is still a difficult endeavor.

In an ideal world, the Lakers find a way to sign PG and Lebron, re-sign Randle and add halfway competent starting C via the room exception. Add in Kawhi somehow and basically you're inside the wet dream of a Laker fan. In a realistic world, just HALF of that is a successful offseason. Signing PG and re-signing Randle to a reasonable deal is a good offseason. Let's not let the amazing pipe dreams we have cause us to lose our sense of reality.

I do hope the Lakers have backup plans and potentially involves using their cap space to absorb unwanted expiring contracts from other teams in exchange for draft consideration. Like what the team did with Jeremy Lin (that first round pick became Nance) and Jose Calderon (2018 and 2019 2nd round picks). I'd look at Washington with Gortat first and foremost given their cap situation and his beef with the team. Also consider Carroll. Robin Lopez. Faried. W. Chandler. Arthur. Ajinca. Alec Burks. Then preserve the cap space for 2019.
