We're in a totally different position from last year though.

    1. We're trending upward:
We have a coach with some cred around the league.
We are on the verge of our highest win % since 2012-13.
We have five of the top players to enter the league in the past three seasons.

    2. We have something of an identity that players can recognize:
We tentatively have starters at 1-3-4.
We need a certain type of player - a three and D 2, defensive 4, and a scoring big.

These factors, combined with our cap space, will make us attractive to certain players who will be FAs. We don't need to give max to a player for solid contributions, but here are some decent candidates (first pass, mind you):

    BIGS
    Serge Ibaka
    Andrew Bogut
    Taj Gibson
    Nene

    WINGS
    Iggy
    Tony Allen
    Sefolosha
    Omri Casspi

Those are actually pretty solid players that may not demand to break the bank and be potential fits. T sporting the facts, breaking down barriers, proving breakdowns, and spreading peace among the masses.

It's probably been too long since I took the time to say thank you for your contributions on the site. Good stuff.

I presume Nick Young opts out, but I'm not sure. That would open the way for us to add another wing, someone defensive-minded. If we could find a way to add either Allen or Iggy and either Bogut or Ibaka, that would be a coup.

    Russell/Huertas
    Ingram/Clarkson
    Iggy/Williams
    Randle/Deng
    Ibaka/Mozgov
    Or Russell/Allen/Ingram/Randle/Ibaka
    Or even Russell/Allen/Ingram/Randle/Bogut

I'll crunch some numbers later, waiting on a conference call.

No more washed up veterans for this squad. Either you go after young studs or you roll with the dice and continue with the same group and expect growth from within.

Giving big money to more 30+ average players will not be the way going forward. At some point we would be stuck with a bunch of over the hill players that eat your cap space and don't get you anywhere. If these guys come for little money, I'm all for it but if they need big bucks, no thanks.

The more I think of it, the more I think this summer the Lakers mostly stand pat unless they can get a star. I don't see them able to do that, so it's probably a punt this summer unless there's a good deal to be had somewhere. They just don't look good enough yet to attract a star and KB is right they shouldn't tie up more funds. They're already going to have to dump Deng and Mozgov at some point.

The key this summer is the same as the last one: improvements from the kids. It'd be really great if Zubac ended up being something. Center is the only position I'm looking at with a lot of skepticism moving forward. That and SG somewhat, but I think the Clarkson/Lou thing is working for now.

Idk what direction we go on; we need to upgrade the SG position. I like Young, and he's having a good season, but I would like an upgrade.

Or do we stand pat with Swaggy until a better option becomes available?

That's sort of what I'm thinking. If we somehow convince a Gordon Hayward to come out to LA, then do whatever we have to do to make that happen. Short of that though, I'm not certain what the Lakers would rather do: overpay to keep Nick Young around on a shorter deal (say 3/30 million) or overpay for a Caldwell-Pope who is a RFA? There's other options like Redick or Allen, but I feel like those two will want to find a contender somewhere instead of slog along with us for two years through a rebuild.

I'm just not sure at this point. If we could get Michael Carter-Williams or Shaun Livingston on a solid deal, then maybe that'd be enough.

At this point I think we should stand pat with Uncle P until a better option becomes available.

I like Michael Carter-Williams. At that point, if acquired, that makes Nick or Lou expendable, IMO.

Lou has 1 more year left at 7,000,000 dollars; a real solid value. We could get something for him.

I like the 3/30 million offered by @therealdeal; maybe a TO in the 3rd year.

    I didn't mean to offer it. :D

I'm still not sure I want to do it! I think that's probably a realistic contract though especially with the TO on the last year that @RandleROFY came up with.
