So after all the talk about Jahlil Okafor we ended up going with Russell. I think this kid has a ton of upside. I can't wait for him to get to work and soak in all he can from Kobe.

    Welcome to LA D'Angelo!

We'll find out sooner or later whether this was the right pick or not. I'm rooting for the kid to succeed in the purple and gold and I hope that whatever potential Mitch saw in those workouts comes to fruition. With that said, I can't say that I'm not disappointed since I really wanted to see Okafor in Los Angeles.

A week ago, I said I had a feeling in my gut we would take Russell...or maybe it was gas. It wasn't gas. Welcome Russell.

He definitely has talent, so I'm optimistic.

However, we still need a center. If we don't pick up center this offseason, either through a trade or FA, it's not going to look good.

    Agreed.

Either the Lakers are extremely confident in their chances in FA or they feel they can draft one later in the first round.

Did we make this pick for someone else? Doesn't seem Laker like to pass on top talent in the front court.

Has to be considered. I think he stays though IMO. 3 headed monster at guard spot. 2 of the 3 on the floor, all the time, keeps Kobe fresh.wanted Okafor but the west is loaded with guards. GSW are team to beat. Draymond at Center won them a ring. Gonna be fun.

I'll be honest, I gave Russell zero chance after the NCAA season and tournament.

I did see the potential there, mostly because of his confidence and leadership qualities.

Looking through his highlights, I see the Curry comparisons. He's got a dead eye quick release shot, amazing handles, and a smoothness to his game.

Then he started growing on me. The interview, the workouts, all positive, and I had a strange feeling today about him too, though my heart was set on Okafor.

I trust Mitch and our scouting team and whatever plan they have going forward.

This is OUR GUY now and I will back him up 100%. Welcome D'Angelo Russell. "D Smooth".

I was hoping we were making the pick for Philly in exchange for Okafor + assets, but it appears Philly wants to keep the pick.

I used to hate Malone and I ended up loving him. I used to hate Ron Artest and then I loved him. I hate Ohio State, but hell, I love my Lakers! Welcome to LA D'Angelo Russell!

If it was any other year, i have a feeling we would go with a big (Jah). But since there are at least 3-4 quality bigs available out there, Mitch went with a great PG. Can't hate on that.

Shows you how highly we thought of him. I think they wanted Okafor but after working out Russell I think they realized then that he was something special.

It's a risky move, we could just as easily strike out on every quality big in FA.

Well at least he'll have a more natural mentor in Kobe.
